For me it's with my gf's parents. When I was a teenager, I would usually try to get their approval, so they wouldn't think their daughter is dating a "bad person", whatever that means.

Nowadays, I have my job, we have our flat, we live our own lives. Of course I'm respectful, and try to be nice to them, but I can also raise boundaries if needed.

When I came out to my parents about being trans. They were both really accepting especially my mom. At the time I thought to myself "fuck it, I want to be happy, here goes nothing"
