President Donald Trump voiced anger Sunday at Russian President Vladimir Putin for comments he made about Ukraine and its president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“If a deal isn’t made, and if I think it was Russia’s fault, I’m going to put secondary sanctions on Russia,” Trump told NBC’s Kristen Welker, adding that there would be “a 25 to 50-point tariff on all oil.”

Russia has effectively rejected a U.S. proposal for an immediate and full 30-day halt in the fighting, and the feasibility of a partial ceasefire on the Black Sea was thrown into doubt after Kremlin negotiators imposed far-reaching conditions.

Well, I've lost the plot. When we say he wants no allies left we really mean none huh.

This is just more evidence that bullying through bluster is his only move.

Talk means nothing, look at what he does. All his actual actions benefit the Kremlin and serve to further it's goals. Words do not inflict sanctions, and repeatedly saying shit while doing other shit just makes it seem like the Kremlin is looking for plausible deniability for their puppet. Wake me up when anything at all has been done that materially damages Russia or Russian interests, because that right there will be a fucking news story.

Yep, words are the easy thing it's the behavior that matters. "Yes I'm stopping drinking" etc

What the psyop fuck is this?!

Trump probably got tired of the many, many jokes and political cartoons suggesting that he’s subservient to Putin, so he wanted to look tough. Putin decided to allow it, since he understands the importance of projecting a strong image, so he’s letting Trump talk big about tariffs.

That’s my interpretation, anyway.

Talk's cheap. Let's see what Trump actually does.

[–] Red_October@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Pretty basic really. People keep calling him a Russian asset, compromise, a puppet of the Kremlin. So, he'll scream and shout and rattle his plastic saber about how he's totally going to fight Russia for real in an effort to placate the claims that Russia owns him. He won't actually do anything of substance against Russia's interests.

His handlers thought it was too obvious, so they are pretending to be in a dust up. Don't worry, nothing will happen to Russia.

Probably just a comment to placate his base while behind the scenes it’s daddy Putin’s orders as usual.

I really hope poopy pants dementia forgets that Pootin has his Epstein files and acts up against him. Will be really interesting if those two start flinging at each other.

I genuinely think trump believed that he could have stopped the war because of his somewhat positive relationship with Putin during his first term (yes I think he's that stupid)

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't. I think he has two guiding principals: he gets what he wants (by bullying) and the only thing that matters is him.

Truth as other people know it? That's just another unimportant weakness that others care about which would keep him from what he wants. The only reason he would care about ending the war would be to look good. During the campaign he only said that to get elected. He may have been confident in his bullying abilities but at no point did it matter to him for the sake of the lives at stake.

[–] samuelwankenobi@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Yeah you are right but my point is that he most likely thought he could end the war and look like a hero to his fans because he had a somewhat positive relationship with Putin in his first term

The orange, senile, turd-like person will do nothing in this instance. The only time he will do anything is when he can fart on the face of the average American. I just hope he has a massive stroke during one of these hard farts.

[–] sporkler@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

When asked follow up questions he admitted that he wasn't certain of any further actions to be taken, as putin now only gives a single instruction at a time.

[–] carrion0409@lemm.ee 7 points 2 days ago

1000000% tariff on Russia. Make it happen.

[–] JohnDClay@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

Sanctions are already close to maximum. They said they would ramp up aid shipments to Ukraine if Russia didn't play ball. Russia is calling the bluff, let's hope they follow though, but I'm not holding my breath.
