I hate the implication of what it meant going from calling them PMs, for Private Messages, to being DM, for Direct Message.

I want PMs, not DMs.

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 13 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

But the messages aren't private, that is why I don't say pm anyore.

[–] Tedesche@lemmy.world 16 points 15 hours ago

I’m old enough to remember a time when you could receive your messages instantaneously via instant messages!

Game master is better. Less Dungeon focused. Dungeon Master can also raise eyebrows when people think of Dungeon for BDSM.

Game Master is better.

Tbh it normally is 🙃

They share a lot of the same soft skills

Knowing D&D people, it's usually both.

I really should find a local tabletop group.

I hate whoever changed this nomenclature. It's PM and I will die on this hill.

Preventative maintenance?

[–] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 50 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Turns out most PMs weren't actually private since site admins and mods could see them, so they switched to 'direct message' as a more honest description.

[–] megane_kun@lemm.ee 19 points 20 hours ago

I always thought "PM" stands for "Personal Message", which is more or less an okay description. You send a message to someone "personally", not in-person, but close enough, I suppose.

Most TLA's are horribly overloaded (T for 2).

[–] reinei@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

At first I read that as "top-level aliases" and wondered why you meant T for 2.

Then I suddenly realized the more pressing question: if there are top-level aliases, are there sub aliases? And what would they look like?

Player Master? I don't think this will ever catch on.

[–] schema@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago

I'll be slipping into your DMs...

Ah, dungeon. Meshi.

This made slightly less sense before I remembered that manga is supposed to be read right to left.

I didn’t know persona had a manga

[–] melvisntnormal@feddit.uk 2 points 17 hours ago

I think they've made one for every iteration. It's where we get some of the alternate canon names for the protagonists, like Akira Kurusu and Minato Arisato.
