The special counsel leading both the classified documents probe and the Jan. 6 election interference investigation says that former President Donald Trump is trying to delay both trials "at any cost," after Trump's attorneys filed a motion for a stay in the Jan. 6 case.

Attorneys for Trump on Wednesday asked the judge overseeing his federal election interference case to delay all proceedings in the case pending a resolution of their motion to dismiss the case on immunity grounds.

"President Trump respectfully requests that the Court stay all proceedings in this case pending resolution of his Immunity Motion," Trump's lawyers said in a public court filing.

I don't understand the need for a delay. If he thinks he's bigly innocent, wouldn't he want to prove that as quickly as possible? 🙃

[–] nous@programming.dev 34 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Or he wants to delay things until after the election in hopes that he will get into office again and attempt to pardon all his crimes.

[–] MeekerThanBeaker@lemmy.world 18 points 11 months ago

Oh, I know. It's blatantly obvious why he wants to delay. Can't wait for this family to lose everything.

Ostensibly, his lawyers lost the evidence package Jack Smith sent them and they need a second one. And time to read it.

His lawyers are not exactly competent…. (I mean they forgot to ask for payment up front with a client who famously doesn’t pay bills…)…. So I’m not sure if it’s a ruse or not.

And I’m not sure which is more embarrassing….

This is literally “The dog ate my homework.”

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 10 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Trump doesn't have a dog, though. And dogs hate him.

(what kind of asshole do you have to be, for all dogs to hate you?)

[–] JustZ@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

And for him to hate dogs. Trump is garbage.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

That sounds like a real bullshit excuse and I'm surprised the judge even tolerated it.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

the judge is Aleen Cannon. She tolerated it because she was appointed by Trump, and probably, he's got compromat on her. Or she's a true believer. Either way... she's not being fair and unbiased and the world can see it.

The election in 2024 is going to be so fucked up.

[–] sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Eh, I'm used to it by now. My vote doesn't matter in my state, but I'll still throw my token vote in the ring.

[–] deft@ttrpg.network 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

switch parties vote in their primary

[–] sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 months ago

I do. Still pretty pointless though.

[–] stolid_agnostic@lemmy.ml 24 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

LOL they are asking for a delay while they file a motion to dismiss, saying that Trump has executive immunity here.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 20 points 11 months ago

Him and papa Putin must have an ironclad way to subvert and influence this next election then.

[–] athos77@kbin.social 17 points 11 months ago (1 children)

A) Trump has never done anything respectfully in his entire life.

B) I'd like to say this is unique to the current set of court cases, but it's not. It's his standard method of dealing with every court case he's ever been in.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 12 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Watching trump in court reminds me a lot like when I used to have to go to church with my parents- and my mom would just hand me crayons and a coloring book to keep me quiet.

Difference is… I was like … four?

[–] JustZ@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

And you're not going straight to hell.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

I’d be relieved if I believed in hell.

Though the closest approximation is Xmas eve services, it’s the boredom that gets you.

[–] LemmysMum@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Representatives gonna represent.

[–] kersploosh@sh.itjust.works 9 points 11 months ago

"At any cost."

For realsies? Hmmm, I can come up with some doozies if he's sincere.

[–] Nougat@kbin.social 8 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

All these trials can be over in a moment if you plead guilty, Donny.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago

"Respectfully" - as if he knew the meaning of the word. Trump probably thinks this word is just lawyer gobblegeek language...
