Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Senator Chris Van Hollen: ''We were just denied entry into CECOT — the notorious prison in El Salvador where Mr. Abrego Garcia is being illegally held. We were there for one simple reason: to check on his well-being, which his family and lawyers have not been allowed to do. We won’t stop fighting.''

Somehow this feels different, but you're probably right.

Alright I think I was wrong, the guy actually got to talk to Garcia. It was definitely a photo op arranged by Bukele to make the guy look less like a victim but it's way more than I thought he'd accomplish.

Not that it isn’t a good thing for senator to at least fain concern about Garcia, but he’s hardly the only person in that prison held there illegally.

I think this whole thing is working out beautifully for the fascists. The vast majority of the scrutiny towards this mass deportation program is now focused on one isolated case of a citizen being deported "mistakenly" which tacitly implies everything else is fine. It's like going to a school and beating up a bunch of 10 year olds, then you punch a 6 year old and only get scrutinized for the younger one. Regardless, the actual point of this program is to scare the opposition and making it known that the current administration will go to incredible lengths to make its opponents suffer, so get in like and do nothing more than vote

Ehh idk i think this guy was just the current most clear cut example so they became a light ingredient rod.

Thus fucking court ruled 9-0 that it was wrong, and it became pretty clear pretty quickly he wasn't even the intended target.

More cases will come out that are more and more egregious but I think they're focusing on this one because it's as clear cut as it gets.

Already there's another story ramping up about an even worse case of a 21 year old who was born here and has a social security card got arrested.

Now none of this matters until libs realize the only way this stops is if community's make de-arresting people the SOP but any social media site other than this one is gonna ban anybody that says that.

I think you're referring to this case.

Not to split fascist and racist hairs here but I don't think this case is worse than being sent to a concentration camp in El Salvador. Yet.

I don't think voteing is going to work in 4 years.

And yet they allowed in a republican douchebag to come take pictures of the human zoo.

My bet is Garcia is dead. That's why they claim to be unable to release him and won't let anyone see him/speak to him. The Trump admin claims he's alive, but beyond that we have no proof.

Edit: not dead apparently https://slrpnk.net/post/20973705

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

What evidence is there to support that?

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 21 points 4 days ago (3 children)

He literally had an exemption from being deported to el Salvador because of credible threats of gang retaliation against him and now he's in a death camp filled with those gang members.

Jesus, I didn't know about that part. That's terrible. ~~He's definitely dead.~~

He's alive!

[–] Lamprey@hexbear.net 10 points 4 days ago

And getting a bunch of international attention that he is there and that is the reason he is there

It’s possible that he’s already been killed or tortured to such an extent that releasing him would raise more scrutiny than disregarding the judiciary. Considering the naked sadism motivating this, I suspect they’re keeping him alive as a hostage. If the Supreme Court actually orders the regime to do something it doesn’t want to (unlikely; they’ll find a face-saving way to submit), I think they’ll want to pointedly show that Abrego Garcia is alive to send a message when he “commits suicide after privately confessing guilt to El Salvadoran authorities”. Trump and Bukele will laugh about it on camera and say they did their best to comply, but there’s nothing they can do now.

I’m glad to see he’s alive. I wish that didn’t redouble my suspicion that we’re being set up for a real Ned Stark situation

With Republicans doing their torture tours showing us Abu Ghraib 2, they're going to keep him alive and well so when he does return he can say he was treated well. Prisoners in this place have nothing but boxers on. This man has the cloths he came in on. I don't think this place is neatly and orderly maintaining all their prisoners personal items in storage to be returned to them on release. He is clearly being kept out of the general population.
