Dude hasn't had a real job, so having things handed to him like this is prob second nature for him.

On Friday, the Conservative Party announced Conservative MP-elect Damien Kurek will resign to allow Poilievre to run in an upcoming byelection.

Kurek was first elected in the Alberta riding of Battle River—Crowfoot in 2019.

The Conservatives handily won that riding on Monday with nearly 82 per cent of the vote.

Of course it's Alberta and solidly blue.

Nauseating. Fuck this fascist POS and his followers. A coward and a hypocrite.

[–] IrateAnteater@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 day ago

Where's the Rhinoceros Party when you need them? There's no chance in hell that riding flips for the Liberals, and likely not for the NDP, but an independent running on a platform of "hear me out, this will be hilarious" just might stand a chance.

See a lot of post just about the 81.8%(53,502) of votes, but the bigger thing is that it's out of 81,123 electors so even if every other elector went to a single candidate plus another 10k swung from Conservative's that would still not be enough.

Very descriptive quote from Wikipedia:

Even by the standards of rural Alberta, Battle River—Crowfoot is a strongly conservative riding.

They really wanted to make sure Monsieur Poil was safe.

Damn I thought this dude might actually be gone. This feels really unfair. He doesn't give a shit about that area, so much for local representation

That's going to be entertaining to see a liberal win that seat well

[–] danielquinn@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's an Alberta riding that went 82% Conservative in the last election. It's highly unlikely.

[–] Arkouda@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

About as unlikely as going from a projected super majority to an 8% chance of forming a Government?

[–] TheFeatureCreature@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

It's a riding in deep-blue Alberta. Not going to happen.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Okay Battle River-Crowfoot, you know what to do

[–] bowreality@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 day ago (3 children)

It’s exceptionally blue even for Alberta but who knows? I hope the liberal candidate calls Fanjoy for tips and starts TODAY. It’s not impossible.

[–] Corngood@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You can sell it as their chance to be represented in the government. Beyond the practical benefits, people like to be on the winning team.

It's never going to make up the difference here, but it would be funny just to see him to worse than the other guy.

[–] bowreality@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

We‘ll definitely keep an eye on this. You never know and yea even a couple of points down will be nice to see. People who think he’ll represent their local concerns are delusional. He probably didn’t even know where the riding is.

[–] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Can’t start today. Not until the byelection is called. Carney doesn’t have to call one for 6 months. And why should he? The voters there don’t want another election so soon. They just voted someone who abandoned their post!

[–] bowreality@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

Well he can talk to Fanjoy today. Carney said he’ll call it immediately if they want that. I think that’s a solid move. I like that he is a no bs guy and doesn’t play games. I don’t want a bye election. I think that’s garbage but if that’s the rules …

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I would even take a further-right fuckhead, be they PPC or Independent, I just want to see Poilievre lose his seat a second time

[–] bowreality@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

Sure. Works for me as well.

[–] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

The guy wasn't an MP long enough to be eligible to the pension at 65 either, he'll get what he put in back so that will be a nice cheque to keep him going for a bit (20% deduction for the MP's pension).

Nauseating. Listening to Andrew Failure Scheer on Power & Politics rn and it’s abhorrent as is the entire con party of Poilievre fluffers as professional rim jobbers to fash.

[–] demunted@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Clearly you've not heard the new Ben Mulroney am radio show....

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

I never listen to that tool.

Someone please tell Trump about this.

For context

Is "The New Republic" serious or a joke site? I cannot tell as the headline is too strighforward.

Right-Wing Canadian Candidate Begs Trump to Stop Posting Weird Things
