Plaid Cymru is a soft-left nationalist party in Wales, and has within the last decade accelerated calls for an independence referendum.

The polls reflect both an increasing disillusionment with the Neoliberalism of Labour (which thanks to Wales' anti-Tory culture doesn't immediately turn to ReformUK) but also changes to the voting system that were hoped to entrench Labour's hold over the senedd, but now deny any single party the hopes of a full majority.

Labour has been the leading party in Wales for over a century, and has led every Welsh Senedd since its inception in 1999.
