Two staff members at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC, were killed Wednesday night near the Capital Jewish Museum, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said.

“Two Israeli Embassy staff were senselessly killed tonight near the Jewish Museum in Washington DC,” Noem said in a post on X. “We are actively investigating and working to get more information to share.”

Two people believed to be connected to the Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC, were shot Wednesday night near the Capital Jewish Museum, according to a source familiar with the situation and a law enforcement source. Another law enforcement source told CNN that two people were killed.

DC Police said its investigating a shooting across the street from the FBI’s Washington Field Office, which is located near the museum. The Israeli embassy is working with law enforcement.

The Israeli ambassador was not involved in the incident and was not at the location when the shooting happened, an embassy spokesperson told CNN.

US Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a post on social media that she and acting US Attorney for DC Jeanine Pirro have arrived to the scene of the shooting outside the Capital Jewish Museum.

Ted Deutch, the CEO of the American Jewish Committee, said his organization was hosting an event at the museum on Wednesday evening.

“We are devastated that an unspeakable act of violence took place outside the venue,” he said in a statement. “At this moment, as we await more information from the police about exactly what transpired, our attention and our hearts are solely with those who were harmed and their families.”

Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon reacted to media reports of the shooting on Wednesday, saying in a statement on X, “The fatal shooting that took place outside the event that took place at the Jewish Museum in Washington, DC – in which Israeli embassy employees were also injured – is a depraved act of anti-Semitic terrorism.”

Police are advising people to avoid the area in Northwest DC.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

I'm... Gonna hold off on forming an opinion on this one, because there absolutely still are actual neonazis out there and they fucking LOVE co-opting pro-palestinian causes. Sure, the pro-israel crowd are going to call it antisemitic either way, but if they're right this time I don't want to be on the wrong side/give them ammo. As long as we don't cheer on actual antisemitism it's easy for thoughtful people to see through their propaganda but I feel like cheering on actual neonazi violence really erodes good faith. Also I just don't want to be saying a literal neonazi attack is good (call me crazy). It's easy to think antisemitism is over/superseded by islamophobia but the tree of life shooting wasn't that long ago.

Via BBC:

The suspect has been detained and identified by police as 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez

Police say he shouted "free Palestine" after being taken into custody, and officers will "look into ties to potential terrorism"

Ah, that's that good shit. All the usual misgivings about propaganda of the deed on a strategic/tactical level but still good to see someone striking back. Make fascists afraid again.

This is frankly not good. Acts like this will lead to more excuses to crack down on pro-Palestine movement and BDS with incredible levels of harshness and state violence and yes probably moving to the level of outlawing groups and rounding people up. They'll also lead to crackdowns and attacks by the way on online spaces like this. They've been looking for excuses, here's one.

Adventurism doesn't work. Killing a couple of them -outside- the occupation isn't going to dissuade those in the entity from continuing the genocide. In fact it plays into their narrative of not being safe outside the entity and thus needing everyone to move to the entity and giving rise to the excuse for its existence and crimes. And it gives an excuse to play the victim again just when that was running dry. They don't care about not feeling safe outside of their occupation, they very much desire it. What works are things like Oct 7th, that drove the settlers to flee back to their homes elsewhere, what works is Ansar Allah's strikes and a bad economy.

If there's a need to create a cost in the west it shouldn't be against these but their enablers. Look at the actions of those activists in Britain shutting down weapons suppliers. Things like that have an positive impact by inflicting a cost for participating on those who are stuck there in terms of manufacturing or living situations.

Hope this guy is not part of or a frequent participant with any orgs. The gloves are not off yet contrary to what many may think and the US can hit much, much harder.

I think if you're not ready to deal with the possibility of random acts of adventurism, then you are not ready to deal with a revolution. Because what do you think is going to happen as the conditions for a revolution increase? Something like this happening is almost inevitable, and we certainly won't see revolution without more incidents like this happening. What do you think is going to happen in a revolution? Do you think you can achieve that without somehow inciting the full strength of what the government can do to stop us? Like if we somehow just managed to stop every single individual from ever considering adventurism (which is impossible), that we could do revolution peacefully, or without inciting them to crack down? Like sure, we can agree that what this person did wasn't well thought out, but this shit is going to happen as conditions worsen. It's not about not giving them an excuse, they will find an excuse if they want to, even if this didn't happen.

My initial thought is that it's fairly likely that the shooter is also Israeli fash-infighting

Edit: Looks like they have a suspect https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/shooting-dc-jewish-museum-rcna208427
