When Trump was in office the first time and screwing with the post office I knew my time of getting chick's through the mail was over. I now use local breeders.

We usually order 50 day old chicks every year to raise on our small farm. They come via USPS and they usually take a day to travel 120 miles to our local post office where we get a call when they arrive. They look happy and healthy when we pick them up and never lost any due to the travel.
This year we lost 9 out of 40 ordered in just one day. They seemed tired and not their normal chipper self. We took care of them and didn't lose any past those first 24 hours of arrival. Checked the tracking details and they traveled up and down the state for 2 days before we got the call. Not sure what changed at the post office but glad to see attention placed on it via an article like this.
Not sure what changed at the post office
The change was in the White House. As soon as 47 took office again I noticed the change. Now that David Steiner is the new Postmaster General you can expect it to only get worse.
I know of four chickens who didn’t make it there because of raccoons
