It's definitely because of his work in The Fifth Element.
I mean, the rest of his extensive filmography is nice I guess, but Fifth Element was his Magnum Opus.
Nobody wears tilted hair like Sir Gary Oldman.

Best introduction of a character for sure.

It's crazy to me that those are back-to-back Luc Besson films, both starring Gary Oldman. Oldman's performances are so different, I didn't even recognize them as the same actor until I saw the credits.
That's pleasant news! One of the finest actors today, and of all time.
Years from now, as you lay on your death bed saying goodbye to your family, you hear a marker snap and someone shouts "CUT! That's a wrap, everyone!" Suddenly your memory is filled with a truth you had long forgotten as you come to the sudden realization that you have been Gary Oldman this entire time.
