If I remember correctly this was a scam anyways as it needed a lot of natural gas to pre-heat the central tower in the morning or so. So on less sunny days it was net-negative energy wise. But I might remember wrong.

You're remembering correctly.
Will they re-use the land for traditional solar panels? I mean they already own the acreage, and it’s already connected to the grid.
I think steam engines are awesome. They worked amazingly well. Ended up being superior to the German car industry during WW2and helped win the war. But everyone got to admit a diesel (and especially electric) train was always going to doom the steam engine.
This says more about how great solar voltaic is than anything else.
