Their findings paint a sobering picture: while some states saw dramatic gains in life expectancy, others, particularly in the South, experienced little or no improvement over an entire century.

Now check the life expectancy for the upper 1% and tell me how they faired… you know compared to people who can’t afford appropriate health care.

I believe they actually did see improvements, they just weren't sustained
