MODERATORS

So the idea is a mix of user submitted playlists, informational segments and a few ads from hand-picked EU based companies that deserve more attention anyway. The ads can in turn fund music licensing fees.

For the info segments it could be anything really like current events, mildly interesting facts, fun novelties and so on as long as it is relevant to the European audience. People could either record their own voice or hand in text that is then recorded by other volunteers. Someone would have to curate all of this of course and I'm thinking maybe that part can be handled sort of like moderating a Lemmy community. As in enforcing a set of rules without intervening too much.

Would you be interested in this? Or would you even like to participate? I'd have to ask for help with the technical side of things anyway. But I'm convinced this could be a fun project and provide a nice alternative to paid audio streaming so I'm willing to put in some effort.

You might find Funkwhale interesting as a way of bringing together people's audio collections.

Cool idea, something like radio paradise, but with user submitted content. I'd be interested in participating and I do have technical knowledge (although I've never set up a radio station). I imagine the most difficult part would be the licensing stuff, I have no idea how that works. Also how would you fund initial cost until you've found advertisers?

I'd pitch it to companies until one says yes before buying anything. They could sponsor whole segments, paying no more than whatever it costs me. I'm not interested in making money off of this. Otherwise maybe crowdfunding but if possible I'd prefer the creative parts being contributed by individuals and the financial part by companies if that makes sense. And the licensing part will require some reseach for sure. I'm prepared to pay for legal counseling out of pocket if I feel like I can't handle it on my own.

Licensing will be your biggest issue as its usually done per-country. Here's PPL (uk) pricing model for example.

And here's an overview on the subject.
