More of a local-ish story from Germany: Some policeman shot a catfish that attacked some swimmers at a lake in Bavaria three times.
He didn't even kill the fish, it was later fished out of the lake and killed. There's a big investigation into if that policeman was right to shoot the fish and if it was right to kill it in the first place (it wasn't IMO).
Germany: After Germany started ramping up border controls, Poland has now started stopping and controlling people coming in from Germany in retaliation.
Croatia:
And holy hell was it a bizarre nationalist spectacle!
We watched a bit on YouTube and it felt like some sort of awful scene from a movie...

Hopefully it was also bringing ultra right wing nationalist types from other countries and not drawing exclusively from Croatia.
I do enjoy the irony of idolizing a puppet regime though. Strange that people want even their government leaders to be boot lickers of others again.

No, Germany actually. Some 2m+ fish took objection to people swimming in the lake, and caused serious bite injuries. The fish was shot by the police who had arrived to help when it got close to other people who were just leaving the water.
I was (half) expecting to be able to tease you but, well, that's not funny, my bad. I hope there was nothing that serious as far as the bites were concerned.
Was the heat much higher than it usually is? Could that explain the resistivity of the fish? I've often wondered how the extreme heat waves would impact animals around us.
What is funny is that the fish was sold at a local restaurant after it was shot.

Australia: A mother was found guilty today of murdering her in-laws and a friend by inviting them over for a beef Wellington lunch, laced with foraged Death Cap mushrooms. Tried fairly hard to get her (estranged) husband over for the lunch too.
There was previous counts of trying to poison her ex that were dropped. I suspect that's why he dodged the lunch!
I don't blame him for not showing up! And she tried to gaslight him into coming!

Brazil: the big retirement fund steal (Fraude do INSS) and how the govt is acting to try and give the old people their money back.
In an extremely predictable twist, the right-wing is doing everything they can to paint the fraud solely as the current govt's fault, despite them being in control from 2016-2022, years during which said fraud was already running.
Political scandal involving our current prime minister and his funding sources, that seem like cutbacks or getting paid for money laundering.
Oh blimey any truth in it?
The people who do the investigations are reputable if not always likeable. But we'll see what the government investigation reveals.
