Outlives most people by 40 years only to be killed by a driver. This is awful on so many levels. 😔
I remember this guy making headlines for marathons in Toronto.
He started at 89?! Damn. So I still have time. Thanks for telling me to keep procrastinate!
Holy shit I thought 114 was a mistype
That article really doesn't do this story justice. He wasn't merely hit by a car in an "accident", he was killed by a driver in a hit-and-run! (SOURCE)
Kinda skeptical if he was actually 114 though.
From Wikipedia:
Guinness World Records refused to include Singh in its record book because he could not produce his birth certificate to prove his age. Birth records were typically issued in villages in India at the time.[31][32]
That said, fuck cars
That was because the British Raj did not create birth records so there is no record to produce. Local villages in India did keep a form of record but it was normal to be off by a few months or sometimes people lied to get their kids into school early. Given his history and fame, it is unlikely to be off by more than a few years at most.
Don't take away his achievements for some bureaucratic reason.
So is he merely 110 running a marathon or only a super young 100?
Still. Crazy impressed over here.
It makes me livid that professional journalists still refer to preventable motor violence as "accidents". The most charitable way to describe what happened here is a crash. The most accurate way to describe what happened here is institutionally or personally negligent manslaughter. In the year 2025 there is nothing accidental about the way that road and highway departments all over the world continue to uphold viscerally deadly environments as the normative streetscape.
I can’t tell if this is real or an onion site. Someone please tell me. I had no idea people could live to 114 and run!???
We can live that long, although it's uncommon.
A key thing as you get older is to stay active and mobile. If you can it'll be easier to remain mobile longer which will in turn help you live longer.
It can get hard though as bad knees or hips start impeding movement.
Edit: and the staying active as you get older isn't like when you hit 70, but from what I've seen becomes more and more important in the 40s
That only works if you don’t get the very common entropy of illness or disability.
Like tell that life advice to many people who i know who are bedridden in their 20s from lifelong chronic illness.
Why such hostility when you were asking a question about how people can live to that age and run?
There are countless things that can get in the way, but if you're lucky with your health, that's what it takes to live old and be able to run.
sorry if it came off as hostile, not my intention.
but yeah i wasn’t asking for your opinion on life advice but just if this was a legitimate article.
