A place to meme about the glorious ROMAN EMPIRE (and Roman Republic, and Roman Kingdom)! Byzantines tolerated! The HRE is not.

That's true, but I don't know if anybody was in a hurry to let them in. In the end, it was ruled they're not substantially European enough to qualify.
