I would genuinely find it hard to be in the same proximity as a telepath. What the hell do you do? Recite mantras in your head to keep your thoughts pure?

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 44 points 1 week ago (1 children)

She’s an empath, not a telepath. She can’t read your thoughts she can only feel your feelings.

Also, pretty sure she regularly does it between starships to the people who are on screen, which means you don’t even need to be in the same star system for her to feel you

Okay, but the way it was depicted 9/10 times it just made everyone else look really stupid.

Shady man with shifty eyes: "$30 to come spend time in our space casino/beach resort full of beautiful woman

Piccard; great idea let's go

Tori; Captain, I'm getting a strange aura from him, he may be lying, perhaps we should proceed with caution.

Piccard; your console is appreciated, Riker has already gone over to investigate.

Tell me more about the adventures of Tori and Piccard.

Sounds fun. Do they end up playing the console or going with the man? I think Tori should council Piccard as to what to do.

What happens next?

They all live happily ever after, and buy a tng dictionary.

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I love happy endings.

Thanks.

I am glad you like them, I'll be kind of kind of enough to withhold the gruesome details of how they got there.

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 38 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The opposite. Keep thinking the most egregious thoughts, make them regret ever turning their attention to you.

[–] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

So just my normal thoughts. Got it.

Don't forget to plug the grounding wire in the ass.

Think of absolutely ridiculous things and let it wander

"Wow, I bet she would like great in a clown output and dyed red hair, kinda like that 20th century Ronald McDonald. But with a buzz cut instead of long hair, and maybe rainbow sandals. Still in my head, I can keep going down this rabbit hole aaaallll day"

[–] knightly@pawb.social 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Focus directly on the telepath and make sure to think your thoughts as loudly and clearly as possible. If they're going to read your mind anyway then you might as well make extra sure they can hear you. XD

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I just had this thought that perhaps some people would just be toxic to telepaths. Like emetics.

The moment they tune into a person's thoughts they start tearing their hair out and vomiting.

Kinda like this but different https://youtu.be/nEiM6YSRFjk

You get the gist

Only when Riker had to fill in

[–] Xerxos@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 week ago

Well have you looked at her? I too would have put her on the bridge. Although it might have been a bit awkward with an empath.

Picard is part of a Starfleet pilot program designed to help delicate little flowers experience captaincy without getting their fee-fees hurt.

[–] Retreaux@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

God what a mentally deficient take. Bravo, Internet denizen.

[–] meyotch@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 week ago

Why? Don’t delicate flowers deserve that?
