This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.

I start going to parties every week and then I see this article. So I am killing partying? Nobody wants to party with me? 😭

"The typical female pet owner spends more time actively engaged with her pet than she spends in face-to-face contact with friends of her own species."

And?

Young Americans today spend 70 percent less time attending or hosting parties than they did at the beginning of the 21st century. Why?

Um, because everything is stupid expensive and they have to work all the time just to afford basic necessities. No one has time or money to party.

I think people are waiting for a special headline before they want to party.

I'm saving my bottle of Bushmills for that special day.

Americans gathered regularly for maple syrup parties, quilting parties, and other events of extreme wholesomeness

well there's your problem, we stopped having COOL parties. everyone swing by my place at 8 we're gouging maple syrup

"Maple syrup parties" doesn't sound the least bit wholesome nor American.
It sounds Canadian and it sounds so filthy that if you knew what it was, you would understand why Canadians say sorry so much.

This is a terrible article, conflating "parties" with any sort of socialization. Even worse is that it seems to imply "house parties", which involve teens/young adults and binge-drinking.

On top of all that, it's based on the question of these activities on a typical weekend. Having some time to yourself, or just having a variety in your free time, is approached negatively.

Does playing RPGs count? Because I'm in an adventuring party every Friday.

As the wise Beastie Boys said, you’ve gotta fight for your right… to PARTAYYYY

[–] BigBananaDealer@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

and as public enemy said, party for your right to fight!

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

So ultimately, fight for your right to fight?

I don't know why the article conflates parties and drinking so much. You can have great tea-parties, baking parties, soda-chips-and-movie-parties etc. The one thing I notice in my friend circle is that everyone is staying in touch with everyone else via social media and people don't build a group where they live anymore. I've found 3 good friends in the city I live in, but if I ask when we can meet and maybe have a get-together, the answer will be in 5-12 month. People are booked out on the weekend - visiting parents, aunts, a childhood friend from kindergarden, another friend from highschool who lives at the opposite side of the country, then a friend from university, that friend who was a coworker five years ago... People are still in some form of contact with just about every person from their lives. I have friends who have every weekend in the year planned out by february, meeting up and visiting all kinds of friends and family from years ago. There's just no way to have proper parties (even cheap, alcohol free ones where we cook ourselves) because there just isn't a way to have more than 2 friends in our city on any given weekend.
