I mean, yeah. Also,why would they spend $650 mil on a movie that has a relatively small cast and mostly CGI effects?

Because good CGI is expensive and honestly it was all pretty good.

Sometimes I think about that joke about Kubrick demanding they film the moon landing on location and wonder how much Hollywood is actually saving with CGI over practical effects...

Though in this case I'm not sure what the practical version would be lol

James Gunn's answer very much sounds like the total costs around the film including marketing could be that high. Surely he would phrase that differently if the number was made up out of thin air.

They're rebooting the franchise, so yes, in a way, this is the start of a "new" superman franchise.
