Star Wars didn’t become a phenomenon because 12 year old boys liked it.
It was because EVERYONE liked it.
George made a good thing with the help of a LOT of other creative people. But this is terrible advice.

Yup, that was really the beauty of the thing. Twelve year old boys may have fucking loved it, but everybody found something to enjoy, and while I think the "saved in the edit" is a bit overly revisionist, it gets at the essential truth that unfiltered Lucas is worse than collaborative Lucas.
With George Lucas and interviews there are always two things things to keep in mind: first, he will inevitably oversimplify in a "draw the rest of the fucking owl" way that makes its success seem like an inscrutable miracle of personal genius that minimizes the contributions of his colleagues; and second, he will say some shit that's completely different from the last time somebody asked him the same question three years earlier.
Episode 1-2 was Lucas completely unfiltered.
Episode 3 is the result of his friends helping George salvage his mess.
Specifically, everyone liked the thing George made after his wife completely overhauled it.
And after the actors practically rewrote all their own dialogue.
He's the type that needed someone to tell him "no."
As a 12 year old boy, I loved episode 2: Senate intrigue. Always wondered where I could by a Lego set of that.
Light sabers are overrated anyways.
This is the dumbest take Lucas keeps pushing. If it’s a kids movie why would you spend so much time talking trade disputes, politics and religion?
Thanks george. I had twelve year old boys trolling me down school hallways drilling me on star wars facts when I had a darth maul keychain because "girls don't like star wars."
AND solo was a fantastic film in the Star Wars universe and was the most yeehaw Star Wars was since it was just “Star Wars”
What's confusing is that they took the film away from Phil Lord & Chris Miller. If you look at their films, they make films for 12 year old boys. They actually make films for a much wider demographic, but their work would absolutely be great for 12 year old boys. I can't imagine what Lucasfilm saw but didn't like with their version of the film.
There are more than a few Star Wars fans that could benefit from hearing this.
Why can't it be for 12 year old girls too, George? Oh, right. I stopped respecting your opinion a long time ago. Don't bother answering. You had your time. Let go.
