Diablo is a tell that a human being with a preference for games didn't make the list. The ordering is also off.
Diablo and star wars being on this list is insanity
I did here star wars was good, just had performance issues on PC
Lies of P? Remnant II? Hell I’m surprised that Starfield isn’t on this list ahead of D4… (not that it deserves to be there, mind you)
Because Time is such an authority on video games /s
Lol EA and Blizz just paid to get on that list
Alan Wake 2? Seriously?
Ok, to be fair I haven't played it, but did it break new ground and I just didn't hear? I assumed it was just... a fine third person horror game.
Baldur's gate 3 is a masterpiece and new high water mark. I say this despite intensely disliking DND 5e's rules.
I'm having the exact opposite path. I'm thinking Alan Wake 2 might be a timeless masterpiece, whereas Baldur's Gate 3 seems like such a rehash of a genre I'm totally fed up with. So even with all the praise, I haven't bothered to check it out yet, and will probably wait for a >50% sale before going there.
Entirely possible that both games are good though.
I've been describing AW2 as my subjective GotY. If you don't like the story telling or if you hate cutscenes in general, it offers very little, otherwise it really is a narrative experience like no other. BG3 is technically a revolution for CRPG but it's easy for me to imagine (and have seen) people get bored or the content
Well i hate watching movies so yeah i probably wouldn't like AW lol
Dredge really deserves that list, really creative indie game. D4 though...
If we're allowing remakes, we should allow anything sold during the year, new or old. I nominate pong.
Pong is better than Diablo 4.
Fucking hell, if D4 made the list it's been a bad year for games.
I can honestly name many, many games that can take it’s place. Even Starfield is better than that piece of garbage.
As someone just getting back into gaming, I’d like some Lemming’s top 10 of the year – which would be more helpful than Time’s.
In no particular order, here are some games that came out this year that have really stuck with me:
Hi-Fi Rush
Zelda: TOTK
Mario Wonder
Dungeons of Aether
Remnant 2
And a bonus shoutout to Warhammer 40k Darktide for getting a ground-up rework to the class system. To anyone who wrote this game off previously, it's worth another shot.
Good idea I might make a post or query the community on how they would want to do it.
Do you want top 10 released this year, or top 10 people played this year?
If you're just getting back into gaming, you probably missed a bunch of gems that are still totally worth playing today.
When I got back into gaming, I remember really liking /r/patientgamers essential gaming list (Google spreadsheet), which has a bunch of great older games. Perhaps we could do something like that, but limit it to more recent games (say, 5 years or current gen only?). And put that next to a top ten from the current year.
Thanks for the spreadsheet, that’s clutch! Also, great ideas.
