After ~450 hours in the game, I realized something that I'd been wanting was in the game the whole time, just not explicitly: a way to put your items into "folders".

I often wondered what the purpose was of placing empty backpacks and pouches throughout the game and making them show up in the alt-view. I figured they had items in them at different difficulties or previous versions, or they were simply there for aesthetics (I think most likely option). It only just occurred to me that I could pick them up and store items in them to sort out my stupid long inventory lists.

Gale has a backpack with all his little scrolls. Lae'zel has a backpack that somehow holds 20 daggers, 12 javelins and a spear. And astarion has a pouch with with enough magical arrows to make the Fat Man look like a firecracker. Now the stuff I actually plan on using is much easier to find.

I just wish we could rename them

Yeah, there are mods that at least will give you special pouches and backpacks and things with like an icon on it (sword, armor, etc)

Would have been nice to have a vanilla solution tho for sure

I pick up every tiny pouch I see because they don't take up space and they force me to not bring the entire kitchen sink with me everywhere. to make space for important drops or other things.

You can do like one for pots, one for explosives and arrows, etc.

I also take it a step further and use a goody bag system when it comes to gear for members I'm not using right now, but I will later. I store all their upgraded gear in a pouch along with anything else I think they might need.

If I'm taking someone out and it's been a while, I have them go grab their little goody bag 😊 then they got everything all neat and organized and ready to go.

it saves me going "wait... were these for Gale? or Wyll. I can't remember..." pain in the ass. Just make a little goody bag for them. Then you can organize now and save future you a headache!

Oh, that's brilliant. Why am I not doing that. I should probably start doing that. Really, I probably need to make myself a "souvenirs" pouch, too, for all the things that hold some sentimental importance.

I've just been picking carefully around everything every time I grab stuff to sell, and now I feel like a caveman whose friend has just demonstrated Hit Thing With Rock

I have a gilded chest in my camp supplies specifically for souvenirs. I also use chests for organization in the same camp chest. One for each weapon/armor type that I'm holding onto in case I decide to respec someone later and I need a different aspect on their armor.

That's actually brilliant, I feel so behind everyone else with their nested pouches and item-forwarding systems.

[–] Nima@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

it's really just to save me the hassle of having to remember the next day. like "... wait who was this for?" and having to try and figure out who I'd decided to give it to the night before.

grab all the pouches! I probably have tons in my camp chest right now just waiting to be used. lol

small pouches are also a handy way of packing explosives into one small concentrated area 😉

Pro pro tip: Bags bags bags and Better Containers (and his whole suite of "better" mods)

[–] CopernicusQwark@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

Be careful putting quest items in though. I had one of the nether stones in one, and an update glitched the mod causing the bag with the stone to disappear and soft locking my game (until I downloaded the cheat engine to flip the game state, but it was a very close thing).

As a long-time escape from tarkov player, storing containers in containers is something I do automatically now and I started in BG3 the second I found my second container lol

I hope for your sake they never add bags of holding to the game.

Moving shit around is awful on the PS5. I'll just keep my 25 rows of garbage on Tav. Unless I'm playing a Str character, then it's more like 50 rows. Finding shit you know you have is also awful.

I've yet to ever turn in Dribbles because by the time I find all his pieces, I've lost one. Hope the reward is garbage.

Lost the plans to the crossbow, but there's a good chance I sold them because they look like every other scrap of paper I grab to sell. Which reminds me I'm probably still carrying around the other parts. It's honestly a minor miracle I can complete the gauntlet of Shar.

Edit: I checked. Reward for Dribbles is indeed garbage.

At the Gondian factory. Pick up the plans and two parts, find the table, done. But I made two trips instead of finishing it in one and lost the plans between. Then I also managed to leave the orphic hammer behind and thus ended my honor run because I selected the wrong dialog option.

Thought I had it, but it was on a character I'd swapped out.

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I just use the filters. Manually sorting everything into containers is too much effort for me.

[–] thedirtyknapkin@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

yeah, i just search everything. usually only need to type 3 letters at most, often only one.

is that harder on console or does no one no about that?

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 1 points 11 months ago

With the gamepad UI you can't search by terms. But searching by type or sorting is usually enough for me.

[–] espiritu_p@kbin.social 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I pick up every piece of junk I can find.

To keep order in my invetory i drag everything I don't wanna keep into backpacks.
When reaching a trader I just have to sell the full backpack instead of dragging and dropping every single item into the trading panel.

much faster.

[–] StereoTrespasser@lemmy.world 11 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Why not just use "send to wares" and sell your wares with one click at the trader?

[–] jantin@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Wait. You can do that?!?!?! Wares isn't just a marker for making merch easy to spot in the chest?

[–] papalonian@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

It gives you an option to auto-add your wares to trades 😉

[–] espiritu_p@kbin.social 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Thanks. Will try that.
I thought, "wares" was just a marker but the junk will stay in your inventory as before.

[–] papalonian@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It will stay in your inventory with a marker and when you reach a trader there is a "add wares to offer" button. Just found this a couple weeks ago myself

[–] espiritu_p@kbin.social 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I've seen the option too. Mybe I even tried it. I'm not sure.
But if they stay in inventory they will still clog it. If there was an option to hide items marked as wares, this would help.

[–] papalonian@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

If there was an option to hide items marked as wares, this would help.

See above 😉 I do wish there was an option to filter out wares though. Also beware I believe that the "add wares to offer" button does not pull items that are stored in other containers. I'd have to experiment with it more to give a definitive answer but I know that alchemy ingredients in your alchemy pouch do not get added automatically

[–] espiritu_p@kbin.social 1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

So it wound be an option to mark the items as wares, and then move them to a backpack?
Then I could keep the backpack in case I am short of containers.

I still think my method is the more elegant way :)

[–] TheActualDevil@sffa.community 1 points 11 months ago

Because I don't want to worry about finding a new backpack every time I just have everyone have 2 backpacks for selling items, then just before I sell I go to everyone's backpacks and just mark everything as wares. Although, honestly I started doing it because I wasn't positive that it was giving me the price for the items in the pack and not just the pack itself early on. It's routine now.

[–] Hairyblue@kbin.social 1 points 11 months ago

On my main character I have a bag for potions, a bag for scrolls, a bag for alchemy, and a bag for food. When I pick up arrows, I chose the option to send to the character that has a bow. When I pick up potions, I spread them around. When I pick up a spoon or things I'm going to sell, I pick up and add to wares. Heavy items that I am going to sell like weapons and armor, I send to camp. (It is easy to be staning in front of a vendor, then go to camp, get the heavy items, exit camp and I'm in front of the vendor again for selling it) When my character is getting heavy, I send all the camp supplies to camp. No need to really carry them.
