Pro version (lemmy.eco.br)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by razieltakato@lemmy.eco.br to c/syncforlemmy@lemmy.world

I own the Pro version of Sync for Reddit. Do I will receive a Pro version of Sync for Lemmy or I'll need to buy it? Thanks!!

EDIT: good to know that everyone is going to purchase the new app, we're all on the same boat ☺️ Also, thank you so much for Sync, it was the most used app on my phone for a while.

As this will be a new app, requiring a lot of dev time, I expect we'll have to pay for it again.

I've gotten countless hours of enjoyment out of Sync Pro since s paid a couple of dollars for it 11 years ago, and do not begrudge having to pay for a new app now. And by that, I mean I'm going to use some of my hard earned Google Play Rewards.

Same, I'm fully expecting (absolutely happy) to have to buy it again. Well worth it.

Google Play rewards are great. Every day I go to the gym. Google asks me afterwards if I went to the pet store next door. I say no. They give me 10c.

It's hard work, but it does help me pay for the good things in life like apps.

This has already been answered many times. It's an entirely new app that you will have to buy again.

I hope it doesn't transfer over. It's a lot of work and I certainly got my money's worth for pro, we should be paying again.

Yeah, given the work needed to rebuild sync to work with Lemmy and all it's differences from Reddit, I can see why the doc would need adequate compensation for the new app. It wouldn't make sense to just give it away.

Oh yeah, while I won't do subscriptions as a matter of principal, if mr Dawson wants to issue a new version every time there's a significant code rework, I'd pay every time with a smile on my face. I do it with paprika (the best recipe manager out there) on all the platforms. I'm kinda expecting a new version in the next year or two from them, tbh.

I much prefer that model of monetization. Buy the software, you own it and can use it as long as there's hardware and OS that can run it. Want the next version? It's just like buying a different program. It worked very well for decades. Shit, I could (if there were a point beyond having fun) crank things up and run word 98, I still have the discs lol.

And I still use the old paprika on my oldest tablet, as well as the newer version on newer devices. Which, it's cool as hell my old nook is still running.

I'd do the same with sync. I want to buy it again. Sync for lemmy is not the same software, even if it's heavily based in the old code. I want developers to be able to make a damn living so that we can have great apps. I just hate software as a service in principle. Like, the fancy extras that Apollo and sync did with premium is a different thing entirely! I'm talking about paying every month just to use an app when I object to subscriptions

Hell, Mr Dawson could charge way more than the pro version of sync was, and I'll pony up for damn sure. I dunno if anyone here ever had reason to talk to him on reddit, but he's such a good dude. Devs like that are bloody rare, and need to be cherished.

100%, will buy again but not a subscription

I would be gladly buying Pro again, developing such a complex app is complex and time consuming and if it's anything like the one for Reddit they deserve every penny.

I prefer buying again as well ... Best app in a long time

[–] Sliwa@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

Im buying again. As my most used app EVER i could even chip $ or two for the servers on monthly basis.

[–] Teknikal@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

I also had sync pro I mean you can't blame the dev for reddits actions. I'm willing to pay again as long as the price is reasonable I mean he has to make some money and it isn't his fault reddit screwed us all.

[–] cloaker@kbin.social 9 points 1 year ago

Happy to pay like 10 to 15 for it, bought it twice prior.

[–] ElderHallow@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

I'll defo be buying again.

I'll be buying again regardless. Provided the price is reasonable, of course.

I'd be more than happy to pay again but it'll need to work without Google Play Services

I don't see any problem about paying again since will be a good app and a nice waste of time in the Fediverse timeline

[–] Munkisquisher@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago

Paying once for a mobile app doesn't make much sense for devs, on the desktop they'll come out with a new version a year or two later that's an upgrade or full price for the update. On mobile they can't loose their install base so are stuck supporting customers forever who aren't bringing in any more revenue. Most app developers make far more per user from ads on the free versions of the app. As much as I hate ads and subscription fees, I feel for the small app developer.
