I’m curious, does anybody else sit down in the shower. (That’s right not a typo. Sitters, not shitters)

This started for me when I was younger, usually when I was nursing a gnarly hangover. The warm water beating down on me was a solace and sitting just made it feel all the more comforting. Though I’m sure it’s not the most hygienic.

Over the years, it's evolved into a ritual, now my preferred way to unwind and relax. So much so, I’m building a concrete bench seat in the shower, with a custom shower head above it, as part of our bathroom renovations. (Similar to the pic)

I'm curious if anyone else has a similar routine. Do you find it therapeutic too? Any particular reason why you started?

Yup, it's like meditation for me. Helps me unwind.

Sitting in the shower is my daily decompression ritual after work. I have no idea when it started but it usually leads me to waste a lot of water.

It’s not a waste. It’s medicine for your mental health.

Found Alex Goldman’s burner account

Who is Alex Goldman? I tried googling. Nothing stuck out.

He used to host an awesome podcast called Reply All. See https://gimletmedia.com/amp/shows/reply-all/gmhr36.

ALEX GOLDMAN: Sitting in the shower is the best thing in the world. PJ: You just sit down in the shower? ALEX GOLDMAN: Yeah, criss cross applesauce. ALEX BLUMBERG & PJ: (laughing)

This is so wild. A few hours ago, based on past feedback, I seriously thought I was the only one.

In the gym the shower has a seat. It's so nice to sit in and relax.

However my home shower is way to small for a seat.

Maybe you need to work on your flexibility at that gym haha. 🧘‍♂️

I used to. More of a kneeling kind of position though. No idea why I did it... Just did it once, must have liked it, did it the next day, and repeat.

Kneeling hey? That sounds painful!

If I'm sitting in the shower I'm probably in a depression spiral

It seems like it would be calming. Though I feel the tub gets a bit gross for this.

Any chair recommendations for tubs? What about shower heads that work best to not drown you?

It’s like the best combination of a shower and a bath! I also started when I was younger… I had to get up really early in the morning and the only way I could get myself out of bed was to lay down and basically sleep in the shower. It was soo relaxing but eventually woke me up enough for the day. I still do it sometimes when I really want to relax or am very tired.

Sure, best way to cry in the shower is in a heap in the tub.

Yes, but it's a rare ocfurance for me. I want to keep it special

I bought a nice shower seat for my spouse several years back so she didn't have to balance awkwardly on one foot to wash the other. I've used it on occasion when I'm not feeling super great and oh damn does it make a the shower that much more relaxing, at least if I can get the showerhead aimed so I'm not being pelted in the face.

I’ve got the perfect aim so it runs down my back and body, keeps me warm. And my left arm is free to use my phone.

I‘m too fat and clumsy to comfortably sit down now, but before life fucked me this hard I definitely used to do that as well. Just really comfy somehow. Like sitting out in the rain, which I enjoy as well.

When I was growing up in Jakarta, the downstairs shower was partially open at the top, so when it would rain (often) you could just shower in the rain. It was absolutely lovely and the tile work was well done so sometimes I would just lay naked on the floor in the rain and bliss out. I still (when possible) will just lay down in the rain.

Only when I'm sick, really.

I had a real nasty shower in the house I lived in as a kid. It changed the way I see showers. The thought of sitting down in one. Ehh, it sends shivers down my spine. But you do you. If you like it you like. Also, I first misread the title as shower shitters and, the first line of the description made me think you were going to talk about dropping a log down the drain pipe.

That’s my next post.
