Oh hey, would you like to talk about how cool replicators are and their role in helping achieve post-scarcity?

Really because I'm more like this when I find a new trek friend.

[–] Cylusthevirus@kbin.social 11 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I will be your Trek Friend so long as we can talk about the amazing duo that is Quark and Odo.

[–] teft@startrek.website 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

How about the duo that is Kurzodo and Lumba?

[–] Cylusthevirus@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

See? Quark has ALWAYS been fierce.

[–] teft@startrek.website 4 points 2 years ago

And Odo has always had a trickster streak. He just buried it down super deep because of his PTSD from the shitty spoonheads.

Or doctor and tailor? That show was so good. My memory is shot today though.

Mon capitaine!

As a coffee fan, can't disagree.

There's the right way, wrong way, and the Janeway.

I have to buy honest and admit that I prefer my Tea. Earl Grey. Hot.

Why, thank you!

[–] teft@startrek.website 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Sorry, no coffee but I do have this:

[–] don@lemm.ee 4 points 2 years ago

Well done, Number One.

Anyone who isn't Team Q is a loser. Don't @ me

[–] don@lemm.ee 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I dunno about that; a race of immortals with effectively all of the same problems as humans but condemned to never die.

de Lancie is pure and rockstar, though. Both JLP & KJ fiting him was awesome.

[–] teft@startrek.website 11 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Don't forget my man Sisko. He literally fights Q.

GODDAMMIT now I gotta rewatch DS9! It was difficult for me to get into at first, but I’m glad I persisted.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 years ago

It starts out really boring and slow, but damn does it get good!

[–] enthusiasticamoeba@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

DS9 is my favorite by far. But what I really like about trek is the variety of shows/mediums there are. We've got long arcs and one-off's, comedies and dramas, diplomacy, action, fighting... And if you get tired of watching there are even books!

[–] don@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

All very true! It was also much easier to get into than the other star franchise.

[–] GreenMario@lemm.ee 7 points 2 years ago

I can live with that.

[–] Bunnylux@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Came to the comments to search for a fight about our nomenclature. I seem to recall there being some people who'd prefer to be called 'Trekkers' over 'Trekkies'. Anyone remember that?

[–] teft@startrek.website 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Only changeling infiltrators care which term you use to describe the fandom. Use whatever tickles your brain, this isn't Starfleet Academy.

[–] don@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago

This is the correct answer. Unless you’re Cardassian.

[–] Default_Defect@midwest.social 1 points 2 years ago

I don't know that I'd refer to myself as a hard R trekker.

[–] Stamets@startrek.website 7 points 2 years ago

I wish this was still me. I just got tired of hearing someone say Star Trek across the room, sliding up, and then hearing them endlessly bitch about NuTrek "not being real Star Trek". That or the even worse "When did Star Trek get so political?" opinion.

[–] Ghost33313@kbin.social 6 points 2 years ago

You seem like a nice guy. Ever consider a career as an air traffic controller at the Albuquerque NM Airport?

[–] Rozauhtuno@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Or how it might be the opposite. I'm in the camp that says it's because humans progressed as a species that they could make a post-scarcity society work. If replicators got invented today some billionaire would just patent it and lock it behind DRM.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Replicators didn't even help humans achieve the post-scarcity society. Humans already had a post-scarcity society by the time they were given replicator technology by another race.

I'm not sure I agree. Replicators are basically just better 3D printers, and those are pretty readily available.
