Fun fact Mandy Patinkin's father has just died of cancer. That is why those lines were said with such passion, he wasn't acting.

Acting is putting on a performance. Projecting another person/personality with your words, inflection, facial expression, etc. Patinkin is an incredible actor, where he got the source for a performance didn't make him "not acting".
