Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday went after Nikki Haley while referring to her by her first name, Nimarata, in the latest example of Trump using racist dog whistles to attack his GOP presidential rival.

Haley is the daughter of Indian immigrants and was born Nimarata Nikki Randhawa. She took her husband Michael Haley’s last name after they married.

Trump misspelled Nimarata as “Nimrada” as he attacked her in a new post on his social media platform Truth Social.

Daughter of immigrants running on an anti immigration ticket.

She’s toast and I can’t wait. Love to see these death cultists eat each other.

Shocker: He's a racist.

Right after Haley denied America was a racist country too. Womp-womp.

[–] Cypher@lemmy.world 26 points 10 months ago

She gets what she deserves.

Damn that seems to be unusual lately.

[–] agent_flounder@lemmy.world 20 points 10 months ago

Racists rarely seem to know what racism is. They think if you're not owning slaves you can't possibly be racist. I guess they think it is simply a fact that some groups of people are better than others. Makes me want to slap the everliving shit out of each and every one of them.

[–] ji17br@lemmy.ml 2 points 10 months ago (2 children)

He’s obviously racist, but I don’t think this has anything to do with race. He is clearly making an elementary school level joke by working the word nimrod into her name, as they begin with the same syllable.

Conservatives seem to love doing this to people they dislike, seemingly because they aren’t smart enough to come up with actual attacks based on facts and logic.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Yeah it’s like the Desanctimonious thing.

Though you get it from the left too when you see people referring to Trump by his ancestral name Drumpf.

[–] dlpkl@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

That's not what he's doing. He's trying to highlight the fact that she isn't white to his audience, who would be less likely to support a non-white candidate. This may even force her to comment on the issue, and whichever way she answers would decrease her chances of being selected as front-runner even further.

[–] lemmylommy@lemmy.world 58 points 10 months ago

This is, in a sick and twisted way, the perfect response to her recent racism statement.

[–] BarrierWithAshes@kbin.social 57 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Well it worked with Ramaswamy. Saw an article yesterday of an Iowan voter who said he wouldn't support him because he hasn't forgiven them for 9/11.

CORRECTION: This story has been updated with the correct spelling of Nikki Haley’s first name.

Oh man, the CNN reporter just assumed Trump spelled it correctly and wrote the whole article while using a misspelled version of her name. As embarrassing as that should be for Trump, it's almost on brand for him at this point. The reporter could have at least pulled up her Wikipedia article to double check the spelling, like come on.

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 38 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yes he's racist, but I think he was going for nimrod this time, he's also a child

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 20 points 10 months ago (1 children)

This is an insult to children.

[–] bigMouthCommie@kolektiva.social 19 points 10 months ago (2 children)
[–] AlligatorBlizzard@sh.itjust.works 17 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Who was a mighty hunter until Daffy Duck made a biblical allusion which went over the heads of the children watching.

[–] 4am@lemm.ee 7 points 10 months ago

Most of the adults, too

[–] Nimrod@lemm.ee 13 points 10 months ago

Yeah! Thanks for sticking up for me, stranger.

[–] usualsuspect191@lemmy.ca 36 points 10 months ago (1 children)

He didn't misspell her name, he was making a portmanteau with "Nimarata" and "Nimrod" because it's always playground insults with this guy

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 38 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (2 children)

Random little-known fact: "Nimrod" only became an insult due to a Daffy Duck cartoon. Nimrod was a mythical hunter. Daffy happens to sarcastically call Elmer "Nimrod" as just a reference. People started interpreting it as an insult, or word for someone stupid.

[–] zarp86@sh.itjust.works 11 points 10 months ago

You know it's funny, I was about to correct you and say Bugs made the joke, not Daffy, but I looked it up.

It’s widely reported that during a cartoon short titled “A Wild Hare,” a wise-cracking rabbit named Bugs Bunny called his nemesis Elmer Fudd a “poor little nimrod,” a sarcastic reference to Fudd’s skills as a hunter. Whether Bugs actually said it or it was Daffy Duck who called Fudd a “nimrod” is debatable. Bugs would get credit (it was after all a Bugs Bunny cartoon).

More reading on that for anyone interested.

Ted Cruz’s first name is Rafael (but it didn’t stop him from going after the more Hispanic-sounding nickname of Beto).

Bobby Jindal’s first name is Piyush.

It’s almost like the racism in the GOP causes GOP politicians to anglicize themselves in order to fit in, but they still get mocked for doing so and/or mock others if they have a less “American” sounding nickname.

This shows that they don’t fit in, not really when it comes down to it. But they still stay in their horrible party and take it. And the fact that Haley is a woman is another strike against her in that club….yet she still considers herself a member of the club.

During and not long after WWI, some states banned languages other than English. Louisiana even amended their state constitution to ban French in public schools…even though it was a first language for many of the children. It was under the guise of patriotism, but let’s be honest.

Just shitty people all around.

[–] thesprongler@lemmy.world 31 points 10 months ago

"I'll show you that the US is a racist country!"

[–] crazyCat@sh.itjust.works 22 points 10 months ago (5 children)

I think Nimarata sounds like a pretty cool name.

[–] agent_flounder@lemmy.world 19 points 10 months ago

It is. I wonder if she can imagine a world where 99% of people think so, too. It almost seems like she is hiding her heritage but who knows. Man if everyone was just named John and Jennifer that would be boring af. Why can't we all appreciate differences instead of fearing and hating? Ugh.

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

Yet she's ashamed of it and her roots, since she calls herself Nikki and pretend to be white

You don't see many people talking about how Trump has a duck's name. He's named like a duck, rapes like a duck, hasn't ever officially gone on the record to say he isn't a duck... Just something to think about.

[–] Toribor@corndog.social 9 points 10 months ago

He doesn't like being called Donald. You can imagine how much it pissed him off when that's the only way Hilary Clinton would refer to him.

[–] runner_g@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 10 months ago

I wouldn't give him grapes from my lemonade stand.

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

And he waddles around shitting on everything.

[–] mahomz@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

His beak is pretty orange.

[–] khan_shot_1st@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Can we throw stale bread at him?

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Hey I'm not going to try to tell you how to live your life and what you can and can't throw at former presidents of the USA who may or may not be ducks.

lol I knew this was coming - Trump was always gonna go there at some point. It was only ever a matter of when.

[–] f4f4f4f4f4f4f4f4@lemmy.world 12 points 10 months ago

Whatever, Donald Drumpf.

[–] Pacmanlives@lemmy.world 12 points 10 months ago

Just wait, checks notes ah yes. “I don’t think she is an American with that name and I need to see her birth certificate.” - Trump

Thanks Obama

I have been waiting for this to be used. Same trope that was used before

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 12 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I'm not an American, didn't even realize she wasn't white, she seems to do everything possible to hide it

[–] jayrhacker@kbin.social 13 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Which is weird, given that it's totally not a racist country… /s

It always makes me laugh that he constantly attacks everyone and calls everyone names, but when someone doesn't do something he wants, that person is a "nasty person" and a "anti Trump". He's the meanest bully on this planet.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Haley is the daughter of Indian immigrants and was born Nimarata Nikki Randhawa.

“Anyone listening to Nikki ‘Nimrada’ Haley’s wacked out speech last night, would think that she won the Iowa Primary.

She didn’t, and she couldn’t even beat a very flawed Ron DeSanctimonious, who’s out of money, and out of hope,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

Trump also recently amplified a post that falsely claimed Haley was ineligible to run for president because her parents were not US citizens at the time of her birth.

Trump was a chief promoter of the racist lie that Obama was not born in the US and ineligible to be president.

Vivek Ramaswamy, who dropped out of the GOP presidential race on Monday and endorsed Trump, has also tried to attack Haley over her given name.

The original article contains 298 words, the summary contains 133 words. Saved 55%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!

[–] galoisghost@aussie.zone 4 points 10 months ago

At this point is it really a dog whistle? Surely by now everyone knows it’s a bull horn

[–] Greyghoster@aussie.zone 3 points 10 months ago

From the German nazi rapist? What next?
