Apparently my £40 off peak return they sold me this morning is not valid and I just had to pay another £60 for a single.

It is mad, I just flew 4 hours for £30.

Is it too much to ask for people like Ted Kaczynski to just be cool and helpful

You can charge back anything at any time for pretty much any reason. You might win. If the fine print said what the ticket was for then you might not. But honestly the charge back process is extremely consumer friendly and really tough for merchants to win. They basically have to submit a bunch of paperwork within 30-60 days and then some overworked contract person at the card company sees the evidence and has like 5 minutes to make a decision. They usually side with the cardholder unless the evidence is overwhelming in the merchants favor and the merchant knows the tricks to communicating that.

The downsides are that you might lose, which sucks, and that the ticketing company might (probably will if they're smart) blacklist your card. So I would do it after you know you don't need to buy anymore tickets from them, or just remember in the future and use a different card.

I know a lot about this and I'm not gonna tell anyone why angel-biblical-shh

Love the detailed reply, thanks. With any luck I will get at least some of it back.
