I mean, half betazoid so she can't get full mind-reading, and knows the human part of all that.

It makes sense she would go into psychology.

That said, star trek really treated mental illnesses and well-being very poorly in TOS and TNG.

How many times do we see the crew in situations that would require years of therapy, and it's simply never brought up again?

O'Brien must suffer

Currently binging Voyager as well. Its just a feel good series.

And no matter how much your life may not be going to plan, you're not "75 years from the closest starbase with everything between here and there trying to kill you or worse" off the rails.

Could always be worse. You could be all that stands between Janeway and her coffee

When diplomacy fails, there's only one alternative: violence. Force must be applied, without apology. It's the Starfleet way.

There is a right way, a wrong way and a Janeway

Truly one of my comfort shows, I mean, all of trek is comfort for me but esp TNG and VOY

[–] PutangInaMo@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

Haha I'm on voyager now too

@Transporter_Room_3 Voyager was my favorite of the Star Trek series. I loved the idea of them being stranded 70+ years away from home an djust having to figure it out. And Janeway is by far my favorite captain in all of the series because of how much of a mother bear she was.

She was harsh when necessary, but get between her and her crew and she will rip borg civilizations down to get them back.

The only stronger urge is her desire for coffee.

Feel bad that I never finished voyager. I loved next gen, deep space nine and voyager were both adventurous in there own way though.

[–] Fades@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

No time like the present to experience some new-to-you trek!

[–] Transporter_Room_3@startrek.website 3 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Meh, don't feel bad. I haven't watched disco, snw, or Picard yet. I probably wont watch all of disco due to all the time line problems I have with it, but there's nothing wrong with me not watching them as long as I'm not shitting on other FOR watching and enjoying them.

Idk how much you liked Voy, but I totally get why people who love TNG might not like DS9 or Voy as much. They're quite different shows, and were intended to be different from the start.. You do you, and if you end up finishing them, cool. If not, we'll just talk about TNG.

[–] Fades@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Out of those three you listed, SNW is the most worth the watch imo. Feels like old trek without feeling like old content

As for the second paragraph you wrote, I agree. May father is one of those people, doesn’t really care for ds9/voy. He started me on TNG and I’ve loved every piece of trek since so everyone is a bit different in that regard

I do plan on watching them at some point, and I was planning on starting with SNW actually.

Now that Picard is apparently not continuing, I suppose I can't put it off any longer. I just feel like, from what I've seen so far, they basically went "that whole utopia you were sold in the other shows was ACTUALLY A LIE! SYKE!" which really just feels like new showrunners trying to "leave their mark" but going too far and hitting "change the whole universe entirely"

I liked voyager, I think I just burned myself out hammering through tng, ds9 and into voyager in one summer. I do plan to go back through again

[–] OccamsTeapot@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

I think going from DS9 to Voyager is jarring because the characters in DS9 are so well rounded and three dimensional and basically everyone in Voyager feels flat in comparison. The Doctor and Seven save it.

[–] OccamsTeapot@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

Depends how far you got. I think it picks up a lot from season 4, on season 6 during a rewatch atm and I forgot how good it was at this point. In true trek style season 7 gets silly in some places, but the finale is amazing. I would definitely recommend finishing it
