I worked on this game in QA. When we got new builds, I was the one who got to create save files for the rest of the team so they didn't have to start from the beginning each time. Got to the point where I could beat it in about 6.5 hours and minimal upgrades (only the time-slowing spell, iirc). Not bad for a chicken chaser!

Ain't no grind like retesting the same shit over and over as QA

Hem people say it sounds like a fun job, I ask them if playing the same broken 3 levels of Barbie Horse Adventures 8 hours a day, 6-7 days a week is their idea of fun.

8 hours a day, 6-7 days a week

Depends on the paycheck. Hopefully it was decent with overtime.

I played this game as a kid, and I remember it being really hyped, but I also remember the game feeling pretty short. I think I beat it in a day close to launch and never really picked it up again. It’s very believable that you could beat it in 6.5 hours.

and with the The Lost Chapters. Amazing memories playing this

My only problem with The Lost Chapters is that they changed Jack of Blades' voice to a generic deep demonic-sounding one. His original voice was better.

You wanna feel old? The Nintendo 64 was released 27 and a half years ago. That one hurt me to hear.

[–] SteefLem@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Shit.. well my first “game” computer for games was the zx81 thats when it really started for me, and to top it of when i was little my dad came home with a Pong machine!! Still Fable is a good game :)

Even though the world wasn’t tremendously large, it was extremely immersive. All the nicknames and the cool ways in which your character developed based on how you played was awesome and so much fun. They tried to recreate it over and over and all Peter Molyneux had to do was make what he made bigger

Chicken Chaser!

I got an Xbox second hand after being a PlayStation family all my life. It had this an another similar game that I think had dragons that were both so much fun.

It's truly incredible how Microsoft just completely let the ball be dropped on this series for over a decade. This could've been one of their huge exclusive properties. Guess it still could, depending on if the reboot is any good.

Being able to marry the dockworkers, great RPG.

The main theme of Fable and the music box from Fable 2 are permanently engraved into my memory.

The first game was great, though flawed. The developers made odd decisions like having skill points put into Will graphically age your character, or the shield spell making you practically invincible and also preventing hits taken from lowering your combo (allowing you to accumulate 100x+ XP boosts with ease in places with respawning enemies like the graveyard or town guards, then drinking XP potions for massive levels), or the dynamic economy being so broken that with just a few points in the charisma equivalent you could literally buy things back for less than you just sold them for and create infinite money.

Man I miss it.

Yall need to check out Dene's (the good dev of Fable) new game Moonring. It's in the style of the old Ultima games (more nostalgia!) and it's FREE. (Highly recommend going with the "beta" branch as he's updating on a regular basis there and much less broken than the main.)

I loved buying up all the property and becoming the landlord of the world. Classic.

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

I really loved the way people spoke in this game. The NPCs accent was hilarious to me.

I'm playing through "Fable: Anniversary" right now, and the nostalgia is like a drug.

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

I found it dated and rough, I really want a remake now

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Tried it again recently and it's rough. Very dated. Still love it, but I want a remake now.

[–] kozy138@lemm.ee 2 points 8 months ago (2 children)

They've remastered games from 4-5 years but haven't touched this one yet.... It's due for a good remaster

[–] Daxtron2@startrek.website 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

It does have a remaster though?

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I think it has an anniversary edition, but not a new gen remake

[–] Daxtron2@startrek.website 3 points 8 months ago

that is the remaster. It's updated graphics and audio.

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

I think part 3 is at fault for a lot of it. 3 was such a let down that it killed the series and interest for more. Doing a modern remake would be excellent though, even remake 3 and fix the issues it had.

I really liked the beginning of this game, maybe the first two hours, but then my Xbox literally caught fire and flames began erupting from the right side(stage right) of it so I had to throw it outside and I never really got into the game, unfortunately.

[–] Blaze@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 8 months ago

Damn, that's sad

[–] MintyAnt@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Definitely a cosmic sign of some sort

[–] Varyk@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 months ago

My town lake turned red that same day and there was like a cloud of locusts, but that happens every now and then anyway, so I don't think it meant anything.

[–] Steak@lemmy.ca 2 points 8 months ago

I fucking LOVED fable. Probably beat it 20+ times.

[–] FrostyCaveman@lemm.ee 0 points 8 months ago

I remember playing this on PC when I was like 18.. once I found the infinite money glitch with the trophies, I literally ragequit and never picked it up again
