Good shave. Warm enough for menthol? Probably not but It’s what I grabbed.

  • Prep: hot shower
  • Brush: Yaqi 24mm Naples Tuxedo Knot (synthetic)
  • Razor: Gillette Flare Tip Superspeed A1 (1955)
  • Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (1)
  • Lather: Barrister & Mann - Leviathan - Soap
  • Post Shave: Zingari Man - The Watchman - After Shave Balm

Good shave today. Haven't used the flare tip in a while and I was pleased with how quickly I found the correct shave angle.

Only a shave or two left in this tub of Heather. What a great scent. There have been times where the Clary Sage has been a bit too much for me, but over time I've learned to love it. When the soap is gone I'll still have the aftershave and EdT to enjoy.

I'm planning on changing the oil in my car today, so that called for Woodshop. I would have used Woodshop soap (or Gearhead), but I'm trying to kill this tub of Heather, so....

January 31, 2024 -- WestMan Wednesday

  • Brush: Wald Stratos Haunter 29mm A1

  • Razor: River Razor 14 8/8" Full Hollow

  • Lather: WestMan Shaving - Nirvana - Soap

  • Toner: Thayers - Lavender - Toner

  • Aftershave: WestMan Shaving - Nirvana - Aftershave Balm

  • Talc: Yardley Classic

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

I only have two WestMan products and my understanding is that Nirvana is the newest soap base. There was certainly nothing wrong with the old one, but I think that Tiago (the proprietor) likes to improve the product. For straight razor shaving the Nirvana base is absolutely terrific.

After shaving this morning, I decided to I should put my own edge on this razor. There's nothing really wrong with the original (River Razor) edge but this razor was heavily hyped and I'm wondering if there's more capability to be found. I'll make a video of the honing if anyone is interested.

I'm always interested!

Good Smells, Allegedly

  • Brush: Zenith r/Wetshaving exclusive MOAR BOAR (31 mm × 57 mm bleached boar)
  • Razor: Mongoose Razors Alumigoose
  • Blade: Feather Professional
  • Lather: Spearhead Shaving Company Seaforth! Black Watch
  • Aftershave: Declaration Grooming Opulence
  • Fragrance: House of Mammoth/Noble Otter/Declaration Grooming Cerberus
  • Talc: Pinaud Clubman Finest Powder

This should be a killer scent combo, but I have a cold and can barely smell it. Oh well.

The Alumigoose was great, though!

I doubt I'll use the Opulence soap again, but I've kept it. I've been wondering what setup I could use the Opulence aftershave with. This looks like a great setup. I'll give it a try.

I'm curious what you think of it when you give it a try. I'll be trying it again soon, too

Wednesday, January 31, 2024: Random Wednesday

I felt it was time for me to revisit this small straight razor, but I found it considerably less easy to use than my better straights (the Koraat, the TI and the Parker). It's just to light, and it doesn't cut through the stubble as easy as the others – even though the end result was not that bad. The sparking joy side of this razor is somewhat underdeveloped – but then, this may be just the Soviet spirit still lurking in it.

I also went back to Ishtar. I loaded heavily, and got a good lather.

Have a good evening (I'm having a bad head ache; going to bed soon).
