If we don't just start using metal straws, agave straws should become standard. They're compostable, and are capable of composting in the anaerobic environment of landfills. After making tequila, the rest of the plant goes to waste. Let's look at the "reuse" part of the 3 R's

I have a theory which is: just fuck straws

[–] stopthatgirl7@kbin.social 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There are a lot of disabled people who really need them, though.

That’s reasonable, but I imagine far more than 90% of straws dispensed are to people who don’t physically require a straw.

You try drinking boba from the top of the cup, smart guy.

[–] Zeppo@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How about a spoon? Anyway, I would speculate that boba straws constitute a very small portion of straws used.

And straws account for very little of the petroleum use and plastic waste in the world, yet here we are.

Is the straw the top or the bottom in this theory?

[–] Zeppo@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

Either! Whatever works for you.

It's almost like the people in charge of making these policies don't do any research into the matter before making their decisions.

What a fucking shock
