ngl i've yet to meet a cat that does this, when i meet a random cat on the street it either does not care for me and just walks away, or it gives me a sniff and a headbutt of acceptance, after which i can lift it with at worst some wriggling

My cat does this sometimes but its more like she is playing with my hands its never an actual attack

Most cats are pretty friendly or won't go to you to begin with

Well you probably know how to instinctively read cat behavior. A lot of cats can only stand being touched in a way that isn’t their own choice for so long before it sort of builds up. You probably put your hand out, mostly let the, pet themselves—especially with cats you don’t know. Most other people expect a cat to accept whatever kind of pets they’re dishing out. Every cat is different. Some like to get pet roughly, some can take it for a few seconds before it starts to raise their ire, some don’t like it at all. Some will walk away, some will hiss, some will do this weirdly gentle attack to let you know your time is expired, some will actually attack, though they are more rare. All depends on the cat and your particular way of petting them. Be smart, this doesn’t happen.

i just do the jason galaxy certified hand of adam, holding out a finger for the cat to sniff.

most of the time the cat will accept this and decide they love me now and tolerate basically anything i do to them, it's like a cheat code

Old myth that needs to die. Nature is not a chummy place.

Yeah, it's not true, but they're the ones we're closest to that do.
