Israel is executing an online influence campaign using hundreds of fake social media accounts to advance "Israeli interests" among progressive western audiences, including US lawmakers, Haaretz reported on 19 March, citing an investigation by Israeli media watchdog group Fake Reporter.

So they'd rather set up a bot campaign to defame UNRWA workers than just not fucking shoot the UNRWA workers

[–] Excrubulent@slrpnk.net 6 points 8 months ago

It's kind of worse than that. They've built themselves a machine that has to kill UNRWA workers because it's a genocide machine; that's what it does.

In the modern day, a crucial part of any genocide machine is manufacturing consent for the genocide. This is also a large part of why the genocide machine was built - to manufacture consent for the awful people that run it. It creates an enemy and directs its subjects' hatred at that enemy to deflect from their own horrific abuses.

If they turn off the genocide machine, that hatred goes somewhere and the people running the machine are now vulnerable, so their only option is to keep cranking the handle on the genocide machine.

This doesn't excuse anyone of course - you don't start running a genocide machine without being okay with genocide.

Apparently Hasbro has no power here.

We still have a few Hasbara posters but the most egregious ones usually can't help themselves from screaming KHAMAAAS at people and catch a ban

There are a few that repeat IDF propaganda regardless of how much evidence ppl point out to debunk them. Some I think are ex-redditors that haven't had pushback until they moved to Lemmy. I think many of the latter either reconsider their view when presented with good sources, or leave Lemmy for a more pro-israel space.

As The Cradle has reported previously, Israel provided no evidence for its claims, which were part of a campaign to compel western nations to cut funding to the agency [UNRWA].

This is not true, the "evidence" was a couple of pictures on twitter with weapons covered by a tarp that said UNRWA. The source of the pictures was IDF, which are not only serial liars but stand to directly gain from the abolition of UNRWA. Imo falsifying evidence is worse than having no evidence because it pretty much disproves the claim.

Israel has a very large online presence from apps to trolls to NGO monitor, a fake NGO information site designed to deflect funding away from Palestine. This is the wikipedia page for NGO Monitor and the founder of the site has been described as

In The Jerusalem Post, Kenneth Roth wrote that Steinberg shows a "disregard for basic facts" when writing about human rights.

Not to mention the millions spent on YouTube ads and Google Ads (among other things to push NGO monitor to the top of the search results).

never heard of thecradle.co

[–] DolphinMath@slrpnk.net 4 points 8 months ago

It’s banned by Wikipedia as an unreliable source.

The Cradle is an online magazine focusing on West Asia/Middle East-related topics. It was deprecated in the 2024 RfC due to a history of publishing conspiracy theories and wide referencing of other deprecated sources while doing so. Editors consider The Cradle to have a poor reputation for fact-checking.

[–] juicy 1 points 8 months ago

It's referencing a paywalled Haaretz article.

"and false allegations Hamas committed mass rape on 7 October."

Did the UN not state that there were grounds to believe rape did occur?

[–] juicy 0 points 8 months ago (1 children)

rape occurred. mass rape did not.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world -1 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Evidence of multiple rapes exist. While I understand you may have a set number that you consider mass rape (I don't know what that number is) we have no evidence that the number of rapes were above or below that number.

What we do know is downvoting the discussion of this is supporting rapists. There is no denying that no matter how someone twists it. I would support a 2 state solution with an immediate ceasefire.

Israel has been in the wrong. Hamas has been in the wrong. Rape is always wrong.

[–] bartolomeo@suppo.fi 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Hey, you didn't answer but there is 1 downvote on my question. You're not downvoting the discussion of this and supporting rapists, are you?

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

40% upvoted on mine, so 60% of the people have downvoted it. Those numbers can't be hit with 1 downvote. Did you have a comment you are referring to?

Also it was originally to the comment I made which is at -5... Which had no responses, just people supporting rapists at the time.

[–] bartolomeo@suppo.fi 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Did you have a comment you are referring to?

Yes mate I said "my question". Not sure what you're on about talking about your comments... you seem confused lol.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

I was confused I didn't see your comment at first, I responded to it a couple hours ago though when I found it. Without seeing that, figuring out what your comment meant was like piecing together Legos and Roblox. I just assumed there was a translation issue, as I often talk to people from other countries using translations in Discord/Exeragram and such. (online game that has a bad chat feature so we make due elsewhere)

Edited my tired errors: their/there and such

[–] bartolomeo@suppo.fi 0 points 8 months ago (1 children)

What is the evidence and where can I read about it? You're not talking about ZAKA, are you?

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I think this is the comment you were referring to. Do you have a source that you trust? You could start by reading here, apnews may not be a source you like though:

Why wouldn't I like AP? Seems you have some preconceived notions.

I think I see what's going on- you don't know there's a difference between "evidence" and "reasonable grounds to believe".

But yes, I had seen this article. The thing is, if someone has been caught lying about something several times, they start to lose credibility right?

At Kibbutz Be’eri, Patten said, her team “was able to determine that at least two allegations of sexual violence widely repeated in the media, were unfounded due to either new superseding information or inconsistency in the facts gathered.”

These included a highly publicized allegation that a pregnant woman’s womb was reportedly ripped open before being killed with her fetus stabbed inside her, Patten said.

Another was “the interpretation initially made of the body of a girl found separated from the rest of her family, naked from the waist down,” she said. “It was determined by the mission team that the crime scene had been altered by a bomb squad and the bodies moved, explaining the separation of the body of the girl from the rest of her family.”

Especially the bomb squad moving the girl and then making allegations of rape. Did the bomb squad rape her? Did they undress her from the waist down after she was killed? There are reasonable grounds to believe that, but there is no evidence.

You should really look into ZAKA and it's debunked allegations.

Remember when Hamas beheaded 40 babies? Even Biden said so. The death toll on Oct. 7 included 36 children, so there aren't even reasonable grounds to believe that, let alone evidence. Plus an Israeli tank killed 2 children in Kibbutz Be'eri on Oct 7, so the numbers just don't add up. This is actually evidence of lying.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

Without performing the proper medical tests in a timely manner evidence outside of people visually seeing it and victims saying it is all you can acquire.

I asked about AP because I just assumed everyone distrusts different sources. AP I have found to be usually pretty good so I chose them to link. If you didn't care for them I figured we could find another source you may find more trustworthy. I'll look more into your links later, but yes there were many lies about Oct 7th when it first occurred.
