I would love to use a different app but I am stuck with Discord because I have to use it for work. I was wondering if there was a way to connect normally with Discord content from an open source alternative…? I know there’s Revolt and Matrix which look a lot like it but I haven’t used either because I don’t need another Discord if I cannot use it for the same purpose I’m doing now (I have to use preexisting Discord servers and connect with coworkers who only use Discord and won’t move).

Are you just looking for an open source Discord front-end? If so you could check out BetterDiscord. Here's a link to their Github https://github.com/BetterDiscord/BetterDiscord

it's not really open source - only the modifications are. the base is still the normal, closed source client.

I'll look into it when I'm back home. Thanks!

It doesn't have a mobile option from what I seen. What a bummer. :(

Oh I'm sorry to hear that, if you don't mind me asking are you on Android or IOS?

If you're willing to host your own matrix server, a Discord bridge could be an option

Can you use DM's with a bridge? From what I understand bridges use bots to send messages in Discord right? Thats the reason I havent looked into setting one up yet

The mautrix-discord bridge supports group chats and DMs

Can't wait for spacebar (formerly fosscord) to be released.
