Unless there's actually a way to achieve FTL travel (I highly doubt it), you couldn't have interstellar empires. This video recognizes that it's difficult, when in reality it's probably impossible.

Generation (or sci-fi suspended animation, if possible) ships are the only way a species can move to another star system, but they won't have meaningful contact with their home world. They might be able to send messages back and forth that take decades to reach their destination, but that's about it and not very useful. At best they could share scientific advancements. The colony makes some breakthrough discovery and transmits it to the home world who can then apply it there and vice versa.

well, yeah

this is how you teach materialism to yankees; by making them imagine far flung alien civilizations. Like how war of the worlds is about an empire being taken down by a pathogen.

Breadtube if it didn't suck.

Post videos you genuinely enjoy and want to share, duh. Celebrate the diversity of interests shared by chapochatters by posting a deep dive into Venetian kelp farming, I dunno. Also media criticism, bite-sized versions of left-wing theory, all the stuff you expected. But I am curious about that kelp farming thing now that you mentioned it.

Low effort / spam videos might be removed, especially weeb content.

There is a cytube that you can paste videos into and watch with whoever happens to be around. It's open submission unless there's something important to commandeer it with at the time.

A weekly watch party happens every Saturday (Sunday down under), with video nominations Saturday-Monday, voting Monday-Thursday. See the pin for whatever stage it's currently in.
