Being nice to people makes them happy to be around you.

But we can have some fun along the way, and it does change behaviour for a bit.

This has been the go-to for decades and it's not working. I feel like we need to be prepared to engage with the system, but make it clear we are not just passive consumers. Something that becomes viral maybe?....

I'm getting a bit sick of large corporations a) demanding excess data as a condition of doing business with me, b) allowing it to be stolen, and c) giving zero fucks about it.

What are some things that us netizens can do to make our displeasure known.

Extra points for funny ideas.

It's almost as if, hear me out here, the Norwegians are right....

Oh look, Mossad has an account on Lemmy!

I wasn't saying you were excusing the behaviour. I was saying that many, including the media do.

So what practical measures do you suggest to stop this from happening again?

Every accident I have been to (and I've been to a lot), was either caused by driver impatience (driving faster than the conditions, drink driving, fiddling with phone, etc) or deliberate intent (suicide). The former is a driver education and training problem. We need to train young drivers to accept delays as OK. As a former motorcycle rider, I taught my kids the importance of patience and driving as if the rest of the world was out to kill you. Every driver should have to do (and pass) a defensive driving course. Also, too many bad habits are passed from parent to child, so every driver should have to spend a prescribed amount of time with registered driving instructors. In Germany, you cannot get your drivers licence without spending time with registered driving instructors, and if you fail your test it costs 400-500 euros to repeat, so there's a good incentive to learn the skills correctly the first time.

This was an organised event with signage etc.. There are many things that could be done, but better driver education to overcome the "bikes shouldn't be on roads" mentality would be a good start. Dedicated cycle lanes and a loosening of the ridiculous restrictions on e-bikes in NSW are some other things that would help imho.

It's been over a month since the temporary ban on US Politics was implemented in AskLemmy. This post is a poll to see if the community wants it made permanent, or removed.

Vote by upvoting the comment below for "Yes", or downvoting for "No".

The poll will close a few hours before midnight Sunday, UTC time.

Is there a mod and admin only matrix room that we can use to discuss modding? I'm aware of Lemmy.World General and Lemmy.World DEFENCE, but I don't think either of these is what I'm looking for.

I did this on Firefox, but I suspect it may work in other browers too.

  1. Install the Violentmonkey extension. Tampermonkey or Greasemonkey will also do.
  2. Install the Lemmy tools script.
  3. Browse to Lemmy
  4. Click on the screw driver icon on the LemmyTools bar that is now visible on the Lemmy page.
  5. Scroll down and check the box next to "Content Blocking"
  6. Add your block words in the "Add filters seperated by commas." box. I typed "Trump, Vance" Voila!

I'm wondering how hard it would be to write a firefox extension that blocked individual Lemmy posts based on the presence of words in a block list.

I'm pretty famiiar with Python, but have only done a little bit of hacking of JS, so was hoping the brains trust could provide some insight.

Why is it so good?

It was started by one of the grandfathers of computing/the web/the internet, but I'll be damned if I can remember what it was called and my DuckDuckGo-Foo is failing me today.

I had to help give CPR to someone recently, and their eyes were partly open. Got me wondering whether they were partly conscious while I was doing compressions.

How does it work for you?
