I'm doing the frying pan method, I go a few minutes after first crack. Still, these beans may be too lite for an espresso machine that's under $100. My personal pick is the ninja machine, I'm saving up for it.

About the grinder, you want to check reviews and various sites for what's a decent one. I like the encore I have (ESP) due to easy cleaning and ordering of replacement parts.

I used a spice grinder (blade) for a while, but made the switch and can't go back.

The encore is great for its price. You can also upgrade the standard to the esp burrs. However, it does take up space.

Side question, what's your roasting process?

On topic: As others have said. Investing in a proper grinder may be the next step instead of an espresso machine.

Playing them for hardware only is different from paying for hardware and then providing all your personal information 24/7 to them.

I'm trying Aurora on a Dell with Amd. I had the bitlocker issue coming from windows 11 that slowed the installation process. The os seems fine, I've used Mint and Ubuntu. I spent a good hour trying to get my flatpak apps to show up in the launcher, so that wasn't fun.

While I like the concept of keeping the os immutable and all apps running in a container, I'm not sure this is the best setup for me. I feel less in control which I have become used to under other distros.

Anyway, I'll stick with it a bit more and see how it goes. Battery life is good and everything else seems to be working.

You'll be fine, a lot of the shows need to grow, but I think Voyager and DS9 from the gate is pretty solid. However, I agree that DS9 is actually better the more you rewatch. I didn't care too just for it the first time, but on the second watch 💪

Voyager's got that family feel with the cast that you just enjoy being around.

TNG is best to start after season 1. Not saying season one is bad, but it might be harder to get into for a new comer.

Enterprise is good is you like your uniforms tight.

The original series is great to get a lot of the origin information. I guess it's hard for new comers, but I grew up with it, so has a special accepting place in my heart.

Deep Space 9 is my personal favorite for political sci-fi. However, there is the occasional whatever episode. This is best to watch is order all the way through.

I still think that lower decks and strange new worlds can not be fully enjoyed without some other older trek shown under your belt, but it's only a few episodes so you can finish them both quickly.

I abandoned Discovery after season 2 or 3 (I forget) I hear it got ok later on, but idk.

Picard, just watch season 3. I watched the others and then season 3 came out. I forgot about the others.

Cool. A album of all the movie themes could be nice. Greatest hits of start trek.... Star Trek the rainbow album... 🕳️

I wonder if the government still controls the weather?

Season one is alright, I like 5 and 6 actually.

Stranger things season one is the best of that show. Each episode flows great and keeps you going to the next one. It really is a hard one to stop once you start. The later seasons are ok, but never reaching season one greatness for me.

Zootopia has a scene that shows this issue on microwave meals.

Encoding to AV1 is good to cooking CPUs.

Trying out their blend and just opened my first bag. It's their 295 mix. I like it, lite and easy to drink It tastes like coffee. Did an aeropress brew and will try V60 next time. I will say the beans gave off an interesting smell that made me nervous about how it would come out, but all is good.

I never heard of this place, but it was recommended in another post. I'll likely keep the subscription, at least for another few bags to see how it goes.

I'm doing a blend of Kona from a local store and whole food Kenya. It's a 70/30 of Kenya to Kona and taste great. The Kona alone I got taste and looks like really dark soil after a brew, so I picked a lite roast to see how it would go and I'm happy.

I haven't had too many Kenya coffees, but if you have a whole foods nearby this one tastes good to me.

I'm having trouble getting the latest update for the Android app 2.6.1. is it working ok for everyone else?

I've been watching a bunch of the stumptown coffee brewing videos on YouTube. They are another great starting point for all of us. I tried their V60 and aeropress recipes and the coffee came out good. It tastes like coffee. Lol

Anyway wanted to share in case someone hasn't seen them. Enjoy

My Google TV picked up the latest versions of the jellyfin app and now a few of my 4k movies are no longer working as expected. I'm getting pauses and it looks almost like a buffering issue. I checked with my NAS and see network to the TV to be around 9MB/s which is fine for a wired connection. I used to be on wifi, but started having the same issue there after the update so I loved to a wired connection. Some 4k movies are good over wired, but some are in buffering hell.

Am I alone with this issue ? Idk. I ordered a 1gb USB adapter for the tv as a last attempt to validate it isn't the network connection. Will be here this weekend and will update with the results from that.

Got to tv on GB ethernet and I see it pulling the file at around 50MB/s which is great, but no difference. Maybe I did something wrong on the encode... Not sure. Let me try a re-encode of the movie... Idk

I recently picked up a V60 to take a stab at pour over at home. I was getting ok drinks out, but my pour control was all over the place. It was too fast and not very accurate as I was using my existing hot water kettle.

I hate replacing things that work and I didn't want to get a new kettle just for coffee making. I started looking for some small kettle options where I can put my hot water on and pour out. A lot of the products in this category are either too affordable where the handles come off or too costly. I was hesitant to get the Hario Air due to Hoffman's review, but it really seemed to check all my boxes.

After making a few cups, it is amazing. I can't get as close to the grinds as a normal kettle, but I'm not to far. Control is great, but the neck thickness causes me to bump the V60 sometimes, need more practice. At any rate, I love this and it's easy to store in the cabinet when not in use.

TLDR: Great product if you have an existing hot water kettle you don't want to replace just to make pour over.

I was sitting in my car the other day and was able to tilt my phone just right under the sunlight to see the two sensors under the screen. This is a pixel 7. I noticed that the finger print sensor was crooked while the top sensor was pretty straight. It got me thinking for all the people with issues against the finger print sensor, I wonder if theirs is more mis aligned, or maybe this is unrelated.

I check the photos on iFixit and the sensor looks straight there, but it's getting the back. Anyway, would be interesting if others could take a look at their sensor to see if this is a common thing.

Took a photo with my flashlight and modified it on Snapseed to make it easier to see. It is possible this is normal, but never know.

I'm wondering if we should start a sticky post which contains everyone's collection of Bean/Grinder+Setting/Brew method information as a reference. It's always good to have a nice starting point.

I will update as comments come up.

Bean Grinder Settings Brew
Speckled Ax - Early Bird Encore ESP 20 Aeropress 11g - 200ml
Speckled Ax - Bird Dog Espresso Encore ESP 23 Aeropress 11g - 200ml
Speckled Ax - Early Bird Encore ESP 21 V60 15g - 280ml
Light Roast Fellow Opus 4.5 Moka Pot
All Encore 16 V60
Light Roast Encore 18 Chemex - 1 cup
Light Roast Encore 20 Chemex 32g - 2 cups
Light Roast Encore 22 Chemex - 3 cups
All Jaffee J1 30 clicks Switch 20g - 300ml

When I placed the order for a new Baratza Encore ESP, I also picked up this bellow for the hopper to push the left over grinds out of the machine. I posted a picture of the grinder earlier this month.

After two weeks of use, I needed to clean the grinder since I'm switching from flavored beans to non, there were no grinds in the machine. Sure there are some fines on the burrs that need to be brushed off, but not much. I'm impressed with this product and recommend it for anyone that has this grinder.

You can actually see the left over grinds fall into the bin when you press the bellow. Works great especially if you do the water spritz to minimize static.

👍

Parent's Bitter Coffee (startrek.website)
submitted 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) by CCMan1701A@startrek.website to c/coffee@lemmy.world

At visiting my parent's this holiday weekend I tired to gently tell my parents that their coffee brew is very bitter. The response I get back is something like, " I like it strong."

I wasn't too sure how to respond, but then they told me my coffee is to watery. 🤔 I told them it's not that is watery, but it's a light roast and not bitter tasting.

So my question is how do you convince someone that bitter coffee is not good coffee? I might bring my scale next time to help measure and perfect the coffee brew there. Maybe even see about cleaning their been grinder, which I think has never been cleaned.

Oh well.

Update: Thanks for all the tips and thoughts. I agree with basically everything posted here and sorry no butter (I fixed the title)

I wanted to try out the desktop version of the Brave browser. Its setup according to the privacy guide directions and I have sendoff usage data disabled, but if I open the browser sitting on the home page, windows is reporting 100KB ofdataa going out every 5 or so seconds.

Running the same test with Edge, no network usage is reported.

The only extention on Brave is bitwarden, which is also installed on edge.

Any thoughts? This is the IP it is sending to: 104.18.12.33

Edit: on reboot of process, I see the hostname: ec2-35-163-26-5.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com
