No, not at all. Just sad cuz nostalgia is all. Cool he wants to travel and meet fans of him and the franchise, it's just.... Again, kinda feels like a bit of a travelling sideshow attraction is all. Maybe it would be better if he retired is my point of view. It would bother me to be reduced to what feels like a circus act or county fair attraction. "Come see the Bearded Lady, after that, get Charles Martinet's autograph!" Ya know?

Edit to add: at the same time, I do get that this is apparently Martinet and Nintendo wanting to continue to work together. Hell, maybe I should take my nostalgia glasses off. He gets to travel the world on Nintendo's dime, and get paid to do it. Probably not too bad of a retirement I guess.

It's just a shame he's been downgraded to what appears to be a sideshow piece. I mean, if he's happy doing it, more power to him. He's been Mario for, like, 20 years? Good luck to the next Mario. Those are some big overalls to fill.

If you are going to chess tournaments, you are past the point of getting your ass kicked in chess club. I said it on another thread, but if people are being demeaning and unsportsmanlike, they can get kicked out just as you would any other game. They do it for MTG, YGO and Pokemon TCG tournaments. Bullshittery about trans people aside, this is more of a systemic issue than anything else.

Yes. I do not understand why women are uncomfortable. Is it a vocal point by the competitors, or are the ruling body making assumptions because "woman fragile?"

[–] EsheLynn@lemmy.blahaj.zone -1 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Okay, but why does it make women uncomfortable? It's chess.

I understand enough about biology that AMAB people typically have more muscle mass, but unless we are talking about chess boxing (personally, I wouldn't step into a ring with any boxer, I would actually be killed), separating divisions by gender as opposed to skill level is stupid at best. Banning trans people is outright bigoted. There is no question. Unless the chess grand masters or whoever had that stupid idea think women are just, what, less strategically minded? Do they think women are more stupid than men? Why ban trans women AND strip them of their awards? Nah, this is bigotry in action.

My apologies. I still don't understand. Are you suggesting that women are too fragile to deal with men's posturing, or what? It's fucking chess. Unless someone is arguing there are blatant skill discrepancies between men an women, it still doesn't makes sense why there are divided tournaments. Is the argument women are less strategically minded, or what?

Why is that the metric you use, and not the policies they have? Just because plack people are too smart to live in the frigid north doesn't mean the South is a great place to live

I know the pun here, but my mind just went to a crass, horrible mermaid that just casually drops slurs.

I've been out for a week-ish. I chose it a few days ago. Again, I'm self-aware enough to know to give it some time, I guess I was just wondering if it goes away.

[–] EsheLynn@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 years ago (4 children)

It's been little over a week lol. I kinda know I'm jumping the gun a bit, I just want my brain to get on to the same page that I just wanna be me, dammit.

Well, for starters, id probably come clean about starting hormones to your SO. Honesty being the best policy aside, they could help you look out for mood swings and stuff you may not notice on your own.

You did handle it well with your kid. Sometimes they get lazy and just reach for the nearest thing to do their chores, cuz they just wanna get it over with. You know how it is, we were both kids once, and I've got three little assholes of my own to deal with, lol. They mean well. They tried to get the chores done, after all, instead of neglecting it.

Like you told me, just take it one day, one hour, one minute at a time if you have to. Take some time to evaluate your emotions, and see if it's worth the energy you are putting into it. I'm glad you recognized it as a mistake, instead of maliciousness. Good luck and Godspeed on your journey. o7
