Honestly thank you for the response its nice talking to a person about this. Yeah I tried soo many times both with the SD card in the device and in a usb card reader but the update software from anceltech just doesn't recognize it sadly

Can I put on a different sweater underneath the wool one? My answer will highly depend on this

Happens a lot with car rke fobs, I usually have to replace the housings and buttons all together for a permanent fix. I tried the super glue and aluminum foil method and it temporarily works. Nothing I used to attach the aluminum to the worn button pad really results in a long term fix though (super glue, silicone, epoxy, hot glue). Is this a better solution?

Dang didn't think of a nuclear site. Was thinking more along the lines of a protected area. The only problem with toxic environment would be protecting the material itself in a budget friendly way

Screw it go for it think the only thing holding you down is cost of materials and machining especially if you're adding a message to it, if its just an artifact/statue you're shooting for maybe opt for a more budget and workable material than tungsten. Some kind of industrial metal you can work with like steel or even aluminum may be a better alternative stone material (granite or marble) being the best IMO for longevity, encase it in epoxy and then put in a PVC pipe with desiccant for added measure. Finding a location where it won't be disturbed is probably the hardest part of this. Can't be exposed to UV light or harsh chemicals, so ocean is out (think its illegal to dump there too). If burying, it needs to be below the frost line for sure in fairly stable ground, with good chemical makeup of the soil, where people won't interact with it. I personally can't come up with a legal means so you might have to get permission from some kind of protected grounds like a national park or something. Even then at most it will last maybe a couple thousand years, longer if using stone material instead of metal

So far, a 2010 Malibu I like how it looks but as a non-mechanic working on it SUCKSSS. No rear jacking point because of the exhaust so lifting the entirety is a pain, changing the damn fuel filter is awful again because of the exhaust, 6 speed transmissions have the vss inside the transmission instead so its a hassle to change vs being mounted outside the passenger side like on the 4 speed, the tiniest space to change the serpentine belt, pinch welds (I know its the norm but I hate it), programming an extra fob requires a scanner that can do so ($400+ on amazon), it has the shortest battery cables which are crimped so changing the connectors (due to corrosion) will require either putting new cable or moving the battery orientation and somehow locking down the battery after you cut the wires, some have faulty door lock actuators (guess who got lucky and got the faulty ones), no transmission dip stick so good luck getting the right level using that damn screw it has on the transmission, flimsy trunk board and spare tire doesn't sit leveled (DIYed my solution) and lastly in my experience THE DAMN HEADLIGHTS. You'd think it would be easy to change the headlights, but noooo its a massive pain. Besides that I like the flex fuel variant, gets good mileage. Replaceable parts and liquids are easy to get and affordable, has a good community online plus I think it's pretty so I'm going to keep using it (currently fighting a mysterious problem and I'm just seeing what sticks in terms of a solution)

Originally posted in the linux community but wanted to expand my results a bit. Hopefully this isnt considered tech support since the problem is already solved and I just want information. (Copy & pasted) Still new to linux hope its ok to ask here. I decided to replace one of my backup drives for the first time in 5ish years with a new 2.5" HDD meant for internal use but in an enclosure (the enclosure works fine). I formatted it in ntfs via gparted and everything went as expected, I even created a large veracrypt container file. I safely removed the drive and after a few hours I re-connected it and it made the notification noise that indicates the drive was detected but it's filesystem wasn't mounted. It showed up in gparted, disks and lsblk (as sdb1). Searched online and learned to manually mount it in the /mnt/ directory but I didnt want to manually do that everytime. I ended up reformatting it and for good measure, connected to another port and boom it mounted once connected. Decided not to create the file container or even incorporate the drive into my backup strategy yet until I get input whether or not this is a hardware issue or software. So what do you guys think happened? Not sure what info to provide.

Edit: the filesystem and encryption software I chose is for compatibility between my devices and both machines have the proper software to support that filesystem

Edit 2: new errors relating to my hardware started showing up when further proceeding with my plan so I'm just going to return it and try again

Hi again, I went thrifting and found a working, original switch dock for 3$ including the charging cable and assuming I could just plug in my other devices via the usb c input, I brought it. Turns out it doesnt work with other usb c devices for reasons and I dont own a switch personally so I'm kinda stuck with this cool paper weight. Do you guys have any ideas? Alternatively, I could take it apart for spare parts and keep the housing for a project or just donate it again. I usually do research before buying electronics but for the price I took a gamble.

Edit: I'll just donate it appreciate all the feedback thank you

Hiya, pretty much the title. I have a dozen tapes I want to backup before age takes its toll. My basic idea after watching some videos online is to buy a hardware based upscaler that can interface with my vcr then throw that signal to a video capture card and record on my computer. I'll go with name brands to avoid problems but is that really the best method? I want to avoid sending them to a service since it will cost more than just buying the hardware in the first place and I got time to kill.

Hi, hope I can ask here. I've been using vlc for android as my music player but it really struggles after 5k local songs surprisingly so I'm looking for an alternative. The main problem I have is that after switching to the user account that has my local media, vlc refreshes and clears my playlist and I'm at the point where it's becoming a bit frustrating. I already tried the majority of music player apps on fdroid but they all have issues with the metadata (no album art, unknown genre, etc...). Any help?

Edit: If it matters for troubleshooting, I'm running grapheneos and use vlc on a seperate user profile where my local media is located.

Edit #2: Phonograph plus seems like my best option rn but feel free to give more options to help others

In short I need a cheap external disc drive and dont want to cough up the 20$ and buy online so thrift store it is. I cant really come up with a way to test these usually usb powered drives besides somehow setting up a computer or asking the workers for help (doubt they will). Does anyone have an idea to narrow down if a drive is defective or should i just take a chance and hopefully the store has a return policy?

Trying my luck here since I really couldn't get an answer on the grapheneos forum. I see thumbnails from videos not available to the currently used profile for the audio tracks that are playing, only on the notification popup though. Not sure if this is a bug or whatnot but I'm kinda concerned if this indicates that data is being leaked between profiles. I already checked the metadata/tags for the audio tracks and confirmed that they are correct also storage scopes are enabled. Should I be concerned? Any help will be appreciated.

Edit for some more information: vlc (permissions removed and not setup) is installed on the default "main" profile, where the video files are at, since I use it to install updates downstream to other profiles where vlc is also installed.

Edit #2: whatever bug was causing this seems to be taken care of after the latest update.

I seem to be generating excessive amounts of saliva to the point where I need a disposable cup to kinda drool it into every couple of minutes. This makes sleeping kinda hard and so I'm wondering is there a trick? I had to make a sort of makeshift bib out of a towel just to combat this last night and that allowed me to get a few hours but man was it uncomfortable. Any advice?

Edit: the excessive saliva finally went away last night. Appreciate all of your help

Howdy, not sure if this is the right place to ask but I figured this community has the best chance of using libreoffice. I recently started to learn about gpg and decided to try to digitally sign an odf file I created via libreoffice writter. Thought I could do the same with a pdf file but turns out you need a third party ca certification, so now I'm wondering, assuming only open formats can be signed, why even sign an odf file in the first place? Is it just for niche situations or do official/mainstream entities now support that format? Would it be considered legally binding? I heard that microsoft office gained support for the odf format back in 2021 so if the digital signature could still be verified on their end then I don't see a problem. Is that the case? My bad for all the questions I'm just trying to see the usecase for this seems to me that for anything professional signing with a third party ca cert. would be the better option.

Hey so I'm new to the world of gpg/pgp. Using a test gpg key pair I created, the goal was to digitally sign a odf so I was wondering what do I backup so I could keep signing digitally using this key in case shit hits the fan and my computer no longer works? Using seahorse, I perfer it to the terminal, the options are to either export the public key or the secret key and I'm honestly confused should I do both or just the secret key? I did notice people also just take a copy of their .gnupg directory but I feel thats just to backup all of their keys including imported ones rather than a singular one. Any help is appreciated preferably as if you were talking to a 5 year old

The TLDR: Just created a gpg key pair now how do I back it up?
