A lot of people have a limit where the effort of getting more money isn't worth it. People without that limit keep trying to acquire money and power.

These companies would rather have our money, but it seems like most consumers value money over time.

Is it still? The VC funding has started drying up and every tech company has started worrying about profitability now. I think the old innovate or die mantra has played itself out.

And IBM & Motorola diminished in part because they stuck to older industries where cost became as important as innovation and didn't lower their cost.

Yeah, it is a fantasy. But it is an appealing one to some.

You're right in that the trade is legalized, but it is really hard to analyze the social effects as the only state to legalize it has purposefully kept the trade away from most civilization. You have to go out of your way to go to a Nevada brothel in a way you don't have to in other countries.

Hell, it is probably a reason why Vegas has a prostitution problem in the city.

You also have some newer mods who are controlling the narrative for profit.

Outside of Trump, Presidents typically win a state office before going on to President. While AOC could go for governor, I don't see her really going for that role.

Outside of Florida being Florida, it looks like Helene hit inland a lot harder than previous hurricanes. Usually hurricanes lose a lot of their energy by the time they hit the Appalachian Mountains. So you've got a lot of mountain regions dealing with the worst flooding they have ever seen.

Going down that dark rabbit hole, I can see how some people might see some benefits.

Entire classes of jobs get reserved for you. All white collar jobs and the better blue collar jobs go to those with the right skin color and genitals.

You get a government provided sex maid to serve you at home. She is less likely to leave you because she less legal and economic options to do so. If she acts up against you, you are allowed to "correct" her.

There is a hierarchy of deference that you are high up on. You may not rank in the 1%, but your word means more than someone of a different gender or ethnicity.

People may be willing to risk their freedom for that elevated position.

Yeah, but the law was written in a way to keep it out of all major cities in Nevada.
