Pole here. I am exposed to US political news in every English- speaking medium, especially though Lemmy now and Reddit in the past.

I don’t know if this is planned or by accident but it looks like US is very efficient in exporting their political bullshit and playbooks to other countries.

Applying the American lens to current events here could give you a conclusions not far from the „ground truth”. Strange.

Be careful not to assign a “patent troll” label to everyone defending their patent portfolio. Where do you mark the line?

There is a Nokia branch called Nokia Technologies. They invest money in R&D, they file for genuine patents involving new technology, for instance in audio and video compression. (They want to sue Netflix or already sued). Them defending themselves against patent abuse is how they earn money. And they go against other big corps. This is vastly different than your typical patent troll.

I hate this too. But - what if we start using this ability to our advantage, just like these guys did? Corps use it, let’s also abuse it so they can’t destroy us without also waiving their rights. LLCs are the privacy abstraction layer of the real world. I figured that even registering your own personal domain is much safer when done through your own LLC than on your personal name. The examples are many.

Older cars actually followed good practices about the interior and gauges lighting. All used red, yellow or orange backlights to not impact your night vision.

Now cars are full of bright white screens…

But mah profits!

737 Max is still a developing example of what happens when you leave corporate to self-regulate themselves.

Lucky you. 175 square meters, 25cm styrofoam on walls and 30cm rock wool on ceiling and I pay 200€ per month in winter for gas heating in Poland. Solar panels are not economical in current regulations and billing rules have changed so those with heat pumps pay at least twice us much in coldest months.

We are fucked from every angle.

The reason is SIMD instructions / vectorized assembly instructions with consideration for delay slots, instruction latency, memory access times etc., for which GCC and Clang optimizers are both terrible and cannot automatically transform C code to them in any but simple cases.

This is also a reason why specialized DSP processors with SIMD capabilities have dedicated proprietary compilers for them.
