This can be paired with the “Erase all Data” option in “FaceID and Passcode” settings to add another level of security.

Just remember to play dumb when you “accidentally” incorrectly enter your passcode 10 times in a row and to make sure you have a recent backup that you are able to access.

This reminds me of when I got Spore on Optical disc for my (brand new at the time) Intel iMac. The disc was ISO9660 with both Joliet and HFS extensions, so if you put it in Windows, it would show up natively and if you put it in a Mac, it would also be native.

After a few games in MacOSX I was disappointed with the performance so I started to dig and realised it was the Windows Binary with some sort of WINE-like translation layer. I assumed it would run better natively in Windows.

I installed Bootcamp and a stripped-down version of Windows Vista and then installed the native Windows version. It installed a Root kit that broke most of Vistas security and the game ran even worse and crashed constantly.

I don’t think that Microsoft deserves all the blame for games running like shit natively. The users who pirate games and the studios who don’t trust Windows users to not pirate games deserve the blame as well.

Microsoft (and Post-Jobs Apple) definitely do deserve a lot of blame for allowing their platforms to get so bloated with so many features that users don’t want. Copilot should have been laughed out of the boardroom and Apple Intelligence is an underperforming, overly obnoxious know-nothing know-it-all.

Just a reminder for anyone travelling to the US (or any other totalitarian regime that doesn’t respect right to privacy).

https://www.tomsguide.com/phones/how-to-safeguard-your-phone-when-entering-the-us-5-essential-security-tips

I can’t remember the combination of buttons you need to hold down on your iPhone to disable biometric unlocking and to force erase your phone.

Anyone else remember these, and know the equivalent combination for Android devices, please comment.

Keeping multiple devices is the easiest way to get by. Have a burner phone for everyday use when travelling and keep your main phone either at home, or locked and unpowered in your luggage.

They need to do an investigation into the Astroturfing Marketing company’s who fund the “No Pylon” and “No Windfarm” groups.

(Hint; it is also the Fracking Companies)

Only one? I want to buy in bulk.

The difference is testing and warranty.

If you buy it local, it has to adhere to ACCC guidelines.

They will import 50, do local quality control, send back the defective ones and sell what is left at a markup.

I wouldn’t have a problem with Apples message if they had actually unilaterally enforced the restrictions on App Store Apps.

The Facebook app should have been banned dozens of times and still flagrantly violates lots of App Store rules.

If I were in charge of Apple App Store policy right now, I would provide access to a third party apps but also Secure their own App Store. Purge the bad actors and develop a legitimate reputation as the only way to have a secure iPhone.

A few high media profile incidents in the 3rd Party App Stores will vindicate them.

So there was a street fight with machetes at Northland and the State Government banned machetes.

Does this mean they will now ban LandCruisers? If this is the case, it is a pity the car thief didn’t steal a RAM, Silverado or F-Truck instead!

When the decisions they are making are “Outsource everything to India/China/ChatGTP” and “Fire all the employees doing the work”, they can quite easily be replaced.

When we built out house, we didn’t want gas; we didn’t want mains power either but the only way you can go legally off-grid is if you have a petrol-powered backup power supply (IE Generator).

Due to noise restrictions, you are not allowed to have a generator within a distance of permanent dwelling, which makes it impossible to go off-grid in suburbia, even though modern petrol generators are almost silent.

We planned with the builder for No Gas; that was a shmozzle too! The site supervisors claimed it was “Impossible” and installed a gas line anyway. When all the plumbing and wires were stolen by copper thieves, they reinstalled it! They even claimed that Electric hot water was a stupid idea (until their CEO pointed out that he had Electric Hot Water and didn’t have any problem)

This was only 7 years ago.

Nowadays, heat pumps are ubiquitous in new houses and gasless builds are encouraged.
