I am not a lawyer and I am not at all qualified to give legal advice. Rather, I am just some jackoff on the internet who is talking about what they did today. This is seperate from the main post so that the mods may nuke it should they deem it not kosher. I am a nervous little kitty and it does not matter how many times I read the CoC I'm still afraid there's some rule I missed.

No, really, this is an anecdote, not a how-to. I am not winking, I am not nudging. If you wanna be stupid, you're gonna have to be tough and taking an internet stranger's word at face value dips into stupid territory.

Anyways.

So I spent about an hour talking to the people at the passport helpline. They have not been updated on the situation and told me that the policy enacted in January is still in effect. Regarding this they are mistaken. Annoying, but not unexpected.

However, a particularly helpful person told me that because I received a passport that misgendered me despite what the supporting documents said, it might qualify as an error on their part. They also informed me that error correction on passports that were issued less than a year ago can be expedited free of charge. The requirements were:

  • A completed DS-5540 form (found online or at the post office)
  • A passport compliant photo that was taken in the last 6 months ($15ish at the post office, though they can be had elsewhere)
  • A document to act as evidence of the error (i.e. a certified copy of a birth certificate displaying current gender)
  • The passport in question.

All this in an envelope addressed to the address indicated on the form with the words "Data Error Expedite Correction" written on the front. I got sent via pirority mail since the tracking and insurance seemed like a sensible choice.

I'm going to find out if this worked by mid July, at which time I will report back here.

I'm a little confused. Did they get absorbed by the government? They became part of 988 sure but they're still their own charity right? So then how does the government have the jurisdiction to issue them a stop work order? Is it really boom gone like that?

During pride month too... these pieces of shit are laughing at us.

#2, I think talking to a spooky g-g-g-ghost would be interesting.

NGL this whole post was me trying to do a bit where I pretended to be the kind of guy that mistakenly watches the Dune movie from the 80s thinking it was the Dune movies from the 2020s and doesnt realize anything is up. I feel bad now because I think some people didn't catch on and I should have put this in c/badposting instead.

Big change that improved my life:

Going vegetarian. Totally revamped my relationship with food, reignited my love of cooking, noticably improved my health and saved me a lot of money (mostly because going to resturants/ordering takeout became largely infeasible).

Little things:

Electric kettle. Being able to quickly and efficiently bring water to a boil is incredibly useful for cooking, cleaning, and, if youre careful, taking a warm bath.

Analog Wrist Watch. I have a cheap, self winding watch and I wear it on the daily. There is something nice about not having to take out your phone to check the time, the seconds hand is immensely useful, and it really helps launder my image as a person who is "put together". Interviewers like it and I always wear one while "networking".

Boot Dryer. This one depends on your region and season, but a functioning boot dryer is basically indespensable in the winter in some places. They work alright for soaked sneakers too.

Home coffeemaking equipment. This isnt cheap per-se, but if its replacing a daily habit of going out to buy coffee at a cafe it will save you a lot of money in the long run regardless of upfront costs. There is something very satisfying about the morning ritual of measuring, grinding, pouring, waiting, and drinking. There are also electric coffeemakers that can be programmed to start brewing as soon as you wake up if thats more your style. Those can be had for less than twenty bucks at thrift stores.

Admittedly, I don't think these suggestions were all that cheap, but they have certainly been impactful for me at least.

Yeah, she was one of my mom's favorites. We ate a lot of her recipes when I was growing up. Its a damn shame she passed on so young.

WHAT!?!? Chat, now is the time to check up on your middle class white women who think of themselves as foodies.

Capris are pretty GOATed and deeply underrated. Cooler than regular pants while giving some coverage, usually have pockets, and go with a lot of different outfits.

This summer I'm wearing the same things I always do: sleeveless + unbuttoned shirt + pants/shorts/capris + watch, earrings, and other doodads. Very versatile, very adaptable, lots of fun combonations. This year Ive been ditching the bra occasionally since the white tank top + nipple piercings - bra getup is iconic.
