Smart people aren’t immune to emotional decisions and if you think you’re the exception then you’re not smart.

You would think that, but I just listened to an extended family member the other day talking about how “Harris slept her way to the top,“ and it’s comments like his going around that reinforce this idea.

You’d be surprised how effective these “a lot of people are saying” comments can be. You just put up the scaffolding, the pundits start over interpreting and adding general statements that are lies but too broad to be easily pinned down, YouTubers and breitbart and such amplify it and make it way worse for the fringes, and then millions of people just roll with it.

Bear in mind the person who said that to me is an intelligent, educated woman. But her partisan lean is so heavy she just accepts stuff like that.

He’s not lying. He just doesn’t think sexism is a problem.

She clearly struggled with the primary but has learned a lot in 5 years and a general is a very different ballgame.

they also gave Clinton a 70% chance of winning

And before people go off about polling and such let me reframe 70% in anticipation: would you play Russian Roulette with a 3 barrel gun?

That was definitely one of the better buried/more roundabout “both sides“ comments I’ve seen in quite some time. You almost had me.

About 5 years ago I guested on a podcast about Christopher Columbus. I read 4 books in preparation. I took several semesters of Latin American history in college but discovered my passion too late to get a double major lol.

Anyway I had PAGES of shit. So many myths I was going to dispel, dozens of citations, this was going to be my magnum opus, my one brush with academia.

I then got super trashed with the hosts and repeatedly said “Columbus was a dick” so many times they never published the episode. We were all too fucked up and screaming to make something serviceable lol

There’s something truly haunting about this picture. The way people are depicted really draws it out.
