Ahsoka is thought to be dead and went to ground even better than Yoda and Obi after Malachor, and Ezra is in another galaxy. Ahsoka also isn't a Jedi anymore and is developing a distinct philosophy.
They're also banking on having been wrong about the Chosen One, believing it's one of the twins instead of Anakin. That they misinterpretted the prophecy completely is, of course, out of the question.
Yoda actually did have contact with both Kanan and Ezra a few times. It's quite possible that he sensed Kanan's death and was aware Ezra was out of the galaxy.

Which claimants are you thinking of? I know the Ottoman Empire and the Russian Empire both claimed to be continuations of the Roman Empire. I don't think Italy ever claimed to be the new Rome, somewhat ironically, and I think Germany and France had stopped claiming to be Rome as well.
At the point the western half of the Roman Empire collapsed they were using a system with two emperors due to the massive amount of territory being impractical for one man to govern, senate or no. Only one of the imperial titles imploded, with the other going along just fine for centuries before that part of the empire also started to collapse.

Season one had some problems trying to find its place, but that's also pretty common for a lot of shows. Season three had serious pacing issues due to the writers' strike. I'd be interested in seeing what season 2 criticism is like.

After having printed the previous version of my poster and discovering that the overall darkness made it difficult to see when framed (light reflects off the glass or plastic and the glare kills it) I have done a bunch of post processing in the hopes that it will turn out better.
