I honestly can't fathom a nation being dumber than America. Maybe that's my American exceptionalism talking but we really are dumb.

It's fake. It doesn't work. They skipped safety procedures. It's not efficient anyways. It's not scalable. It wouldn't work without state funding. State funding is the reason it doesn't work. Social credit score.

See but Kissinger felt like a worthy adversary. A cold, calculating man who you could despise but also know he was smart and crucial in shepherding the empire.

Bolton is a raving lunatic who just wants to bomb Iran and will settle for any point on the map remotely close to it. He didn't earn shit, he made his name during Bush 2 when America had no powerful adversaries. He didn't mastermind shit, he just got to ride with the new cabal in power.

Dick Cheney is my generation's Kissinger. Dick Cheney is who we direct all our hexes and curses towards. And unlike Kissinger, Cheney made sure to get paid handsomely for his tenure as evil advisor to the emperor.

Well in military terms it's a counter offensive because they wanted to retake land that was occupied by the Russian offensive. But you're right, it's not technically an offensive because Ukraine didn't retake any land from Russia.

angel-biblical My favorite child, the Lord has one mission left for you. This will take you to the deepest corners of hell to fight the vilest demon.

As much as I'd like him to die, getting to read an annual headline of "Chauvin stabbed in prison yet again" also sounds acceptable.

I struggle to even say Zizek is a misguided socialist. He's a cranky without useful analysis. The only two things he's done well are his ramblings on consuming anticapitalist media and making Jordan Peterson look dumb.

Sorry my brain autocorrects to all caps cis because I do, in fact, type often about the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

Hey trans comrades, I got a question as a CIS. I work with teenagers and there's a decent amount of them that are trans or simply non conforming to CIS stereotypical looks. I substitute teach, so I usually don't know the names of students.

I've made a mistake before of needing to get a kid's attention and saying "excuse me young man/young lady" or "excuse me miss" or something like that. And they turn around and I've misgendered them. What's a gender neutral way to get the attention of someone that I can start using instead of gendered words?

It's pretty universal that converts are extra zealous to prove their faith to other, while lifelong adherents don't feel the need to prove anything.

Sidenote, I really enjoyed the Report starting Adam Driver. One downside was it painted Feinstein as a heroine when she was absolutely complicit in torture.

Spoilers for the movie, obviously.

How dare the US pretend like they would be the peaceful nation and that China would be belligerent the entire time. Don't get me wrong, it didn't stop me from enjoying the movie. The atmosphere, setting, plot, editing. Everything was so fantastic. The aliens, the themes about language and culture.

And I know that it was a US made movie with US main characters, but everytime they mentioned China being hostile felt so cringe. I doubt Villanueve was being intentionally anti-China, he just needed a non US ally to be belligerent so the protagonists would have a clock to race against. But even having Russia in that role would make more sense. And even weirder that China was ruled by a general from the People's Liberation Army.

Now this isn't me coming from a "China would never do anything bad" perspective. It's just silly pretending that the US wouldn't immediately send sidewinder missiles into that thing before it landed. The US would shoot first, second, and third before thinking to ask questions. The Chinese weather balloon tells us all we need to know about that. Now for the sake of the movie I was willing to accept the premise, but when it became all of the non West countries acting hostile it stung with me.

I think I'm only ranting because it was such a good movie and the whole theme of language being the key to understanding culture was undermined by making China the Bad Guys. If this was a shlockier, worse movie I wouldn't care to complain about that detail. I haven't read the original short story, but I'm sure that it didn't have this element.
