The VP having control over the platform they announce things?

What a novel idea /s

So dumb how much power twitter got for politics. Fediverse for life!

Oof, sounds like you might be looking up what countries you can get to with low cost of living soon.

Or home steading.

I mean the example I gave was a guy who fled over student loans, which can't be discharged through bankruptcy and the US government can not be stopped from coming for you!

Honestly never paid attention to charging speed, never actually gotten the silly thing under 25%, and most of the time after riding it's still over 50%. So I just plug it in whenever I'm done with it and I know it'll be full when I get back.

not a super helpful answer.

Glad to hear you were able to stay strong! I gave up on bikes and the like for awhile, and was in Nissan Leaf for a couple years. But a bit over a year ago I took the plunge and the money savings is just absurd. Even my life required $150 a month insurance, and repairs were always nasty, be it tires or that stupid AC that would have taken 2k to fix.

Uber also really is helpful as well, because once I had a large package I needed to take to the post office and I just grabbed an uber. Then another time I needed to take my cat to an emergency vet, so I called an uber pet.

Another time I found a great deal on a new looking sofa for $50, so I rented a truck. Was still WAY cheaper than buying the stupid thing new.

So having uber as a backup has really made life easier for me.

Some folks seemed leery of finding a decent device for that price point, so wanted to throw it out in case anyone else came looking for a similar thing!

Crazy how cheap and high quality these things are. One recently came out that for 2k can go 50 MPH and has a nearly 50 mile range!

Absolutely absurd. You can register that and go anywhere but the freeway with it. If I ever have to no longer work from home I'll probably upgrade to a 25 mph one that can keep with the flow of traffic on residential streets more easily.

Oh yeah like the video I linked the one that was craziest to me was this:

https://turboant.com/products/x7-max-folding-electric-scooter?sscid=71k8_gh05i&utm_source=shareasale&utm_medium=aff&utm_id=2033777&source=shareasale&nb_platform=shareasale

Around $400 it has 18 mile range, but has replaceable batteries so $100 and a back pack doubles the range.

I didn't need that much range and preferred the seat/basket combo. But just crazy.

Me too! The variety is just amazing.

I remember 10 years ago I wanted to try and get around on an escooter, but the tech just wasn't there and the range on anything affordable was trash. Being able to go nearly 20 miles on a $400 dollar device is just crazy now.

Probably would just get a long ethernet cable and hide it properly if it becomes relevant. But I doubt she'll ever play a game that relies heavily on internet, so she'll just need to deal with her slow download speeds!

That I am XD

If my mom was a better judge of character I wouldn't exist!

[–] ericbomb@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Then there were games like Lion King or Yu Gi Oh forbidden memories which were designed to be stupid hard XD

Another excuse to roast her about her terrible taste in men then!

If you haven't seen Drawfee before, give it a try! I adore them. They are 4 professional artists that draw stupid things.

They used to be part of College Humor, but they became an independent channel when CH went bankrupt, and they are still going strong.

This is just one of my favorite videos on the internet, and I wish PE teachers were this smart and kind in elementary school. Because I remember everyone trying to do pull ups for the test and most people couldn't do any. But like... if they had taught us how to do intermediary ones and had us do them before the test we actually would have succeeded and learned the importance of building up to exercises.

Which I feel like would have been a much better education compared to having half the class fail to do a pull up.

So house bots function as the refs in battle bots. They are used to separate stuck bots so a fight can continue and the like. Each team also gets one "unstuck" from the house bot per fight, where if they get stuck on the edge of the arena but are functional they can have the house bot come give them a push to keep the fight going.

They weigh WAY more than the little bots they are reffing for, so the little bots shouldn't be able to do any damage to the house bots or interfere with them.

Kevin disagrees.

I just love these smaller events because things can just get more unhinged because the bots don't cost a hundred grand to make.

After a certain point in popularity it is assumed the celeb is going to sooner or later:

Be doxxed

Have death threats thrown at them

Be sexually harassed

Have police called on them

Then we have all the Vtubers who are Hannah Monatanning it up and straight chilling. Ironmouse has never been swatted, but by God some people would if they could, and others would probably show up at her house to show their "love".

Dream is an example of someone who shouldn't have let out who he was IMO because the attacks against him seemed to become a lot more real once there was a real human name, face, and location. Like I would have gone to the grave as Dream with how many people hated him before his face reveal.

The people at The Escapist left/were fired and now formed Second Wind.

Anthony/Ian bought back Smosh from Rhett and Link (Who saved them after their parent company Defy went under)

College Humor is now independent as Dropout after their parent company went under.

Overall I think most people agree not being under a corporation is good for content quality. Is there any content creator you hope becomes independent next? Or think will benefit from it?

She then proceeded to tell me how between her and her two friends they have 5 broken cars that need expensive repairs.

So it would be really helpful if I had a car to help her out when her car was broken and I'm just like... telling me about how expensive and hard to maintain cars are is not "super" convincing me to get one.

So yeah not gonna be buying a money pit and am going to enjoy just using a scooter. Sorry mamma! (As a note I'm 29 and own my own house.)

Recently heard "feed the machine" for the first time and instantly wanna go destroy capatilsm and like join a picket line against the wealthy elite.

Any of you discover a song recently that just hit hard?

There is always the joke that people only play 1 of 3 songs on a guitar, but is there a song that would make you super happy to hear someone play?

Seems wild that a now beloved phrase, started as a government slogan to get people to stop throwing trash on the road.
