I went exactly the same route. Years of proxmox realizing it is not KISS in any way for my use cases. Switches to Nixos on ZFS root (so no bash installation scripts ;) ).

However, docker has not the same level of isolation and security as VMs. I am currently looking into gVisor for that.

My t440s is 10 years now. Still going strong as my main and only computer. Although, those frame.works's look really nice.

Just self host the bridges. I mean if you trust your phone more than your server, this won't help.

Ich kann auch keine Vollkostenrechnung und lasse mich entsprechend gerne korrigieren, bin hier aber bei @teichflamme@teichflamme@lemm.ee.

Ausgangpunkt ist bei uns ein Opel Insignia von 2012, gekauft 2020 für 5000€ mit 140tkm (Langstrecken / Dienstfahrzeug). Ein für uns sehr junges und luxuriöses Auto. Also vielleicht für den Durchschnitt Mittelklasse (keine Autoliebe bei uns).

Laufende Kosten sind 200€ KFZ Steuer + 300€ Versicherung (Haftpflicht) + 60€ / Jahr TÜV = ~ 600€ / Jahr (habe ich was vergessen?). Reparaturkosten und Verschleißkosten in den 4 Jahren war geschätzt 1000€. 4x Ölwechsel + 600€ Zahnriemen + Hinten Bremsen; Viel mehr war bisher nicht. Also 250€ im Jahr. Reifen werden irgendwann mal fällig, etc.. Ich denke hier kalkuliert man mit 1000€ / Jahr für Verschleiß und Reparatur aber mit sehr viel Puffer.

Sprit kommt drauf an was man fährt, Langstrecke fährt man entspannt unter 5l Diesel, bei unserem Fahrprofil sind 6l Diesel / 100km eher realistisch. Bei 1,70€ / l Diesel landet man da bei 10 cent / km.

Jetzt kommt es drauf an wie viel man im Jahr fährt.

Laufende Kosten pro Jahr, wenn die Karre nur steht, sind also sehr großzügig berechnet 1600€. Bei 12tkm kommen 1200€ Sprit dazu. Also 2800€ / 12tkm. Also 23 cent / km. Wenn es jetzt mit dem Verschleiß und Reparaturen etwas besser läuft oder der Spritpreis wie vor 2 Jahren bei 0,94€ ist oder man viel mehr km fährt (wobei da auch der Verschleiß steigt), dann sind unter 20cent / km in meinen Augen sehr realistisch. Für uns auf jeden Fall aktuell so die letzten 4 Jahre, weil wir statt 1600€ / Jahr nur 850€ / Jahr bezahlt haben und damit auf 12tkm nochmal 6 cent / km sparen. Also 17 cent / km.. Und da fahren halt 4 Leute und nen Hund mit, ich weiß nicht ob die Bahn dann auch noch so günstig ist.

This is not how it works. You still have to backup your data!

Your account can be closed due to various reasons, you accidentally delete files, some malware deletes files without you noticing it before it is too late.

A friend of mine lost some important data because of the ovh server container fire incident. Ovh had no backups.

What is wrong with cramming shit in a closet like that? Obviously one wastes some space. But it is a trade off. Cram the shit in and save time at cost of space or fold everything at cost of time wasting less space.

Like data compression. And compression level depends on use case respectively CPU vs storage / bandwidth / cost.

Btw. I am more on the left side (including my wife) and I don't see any disadvantages given enough space. Usually, I choose for clothing the first T-shirt, pants, socks, etc. I get in my hands. If colors really are not working together (5% of the time) I swap against the second clothing I grab. If two socks don't match: I couldn't care less.

And I'd say I blend into society. I just care less than other people about clothes. I wear the stuff which my dad stopped wearing because they are 20 years old and ugly. And I am writing this long comment because I think more people should think like that.

Having had massive problems using normal swap in combination with zfs in out of memory situations with high memory pressure I now only - but as default - use zram on bare-metal machines.

Debian. On every computer with a physical keyboard. And all servers. Mainly because of philosophy, stability, release cycle (2 years for major updates which I find neither too longnkor too short) and having gotten (is that proper english lol) used to it.
