That's easy to say when you aren't the one facing a group with body armor and guns.

Politicians do not train as SWAT teams

You can produce a remarkably good estimate by looking at CPU and GPU utilization out of procfs and profiling a handful of similar machines power use with similar utilization and workloads.

Network is less than 5% of power use for non-GPU loads; probably less for GPU.

Its likely that both California senators will be opposed, but calling them and leaving a voicemail is quick and easy

It passed the house and is under debate in the Senate. Call your rep and both senators; they all still have power because the Senate unlikely to pass the exact language the house did

Financial incentives to not pollute do shift behavior when they're big enough.

The major issue is that imposing a tax like this has been politically difficult. By describing it as a penalty for damage done, this tries to sidestep some of the opposition

Data center demand has created huge backlog of gas turbine orders. They're not planning on renewables for the next big expansion

They know exactly what the power consumption of that hardware is though. This isnt tough to figure out just because you use a cloud provider
